Why It’s Important To Have A Spiritual Community
When we begin to tap into the spirituality, it can be easy for us to get carried away into higher realms. Higher realms and planes do exist, but we are here on this planet in order to live an earthly existence. This is where the idea of having a spiritual community comes into play.
Spiritual communities keep us grounded. Others can hold us accountable for our actions—not in a judgmental way, but in a way that supports our growth. A community is also necessary to help stave off the loneliness that often comes from being on a spiritual path, where we are constantly going within.
Sometimes, spiritual communities can be limiting, which is why we have to find one that fits. We might have to seek for a while, and perhaps we might even have to create new ones, if that’s what we feel called to do. It doesn’t have to be anything big or official. A spiritual community can be anything from practicing rituals, to having ceremonies, to small acts of worship towards God. The activity doesn’t even have to be inherently spiritual in nature. Ultimately, it’s about gathering with like-minded individuals that share similar ideals and values.
It’s also important to have a spiritual community due to the power of prayer. Prayer on its own is very powerful, but when you are gathered with a group of people praying together, or when you are prayed for by others, the experience can be life-changing.
We were designed as humans to pray together and play together. A spiritual community can be a great place for those things to happen in tandem. Don’t be discouraged if it takes a while to find the right fit. Try all different places, even ones you would least expect yourself to fit into. On my own journey I have tried everything from Jewish temples and Catholic churches, to the Self-Realization Fellowship and more spiritual churches. When you eventually do find what works for you, it will feel like coming home after a long vacation.
