What To Do When You Feel Overwhelmed…

What To Do When You Feel Overwhelmed

Yesterday I had a young lady contact me and she said she was overwhelmed and stressed to the max, couldn’t sleep, and was very sad. And she wanted some advice on what to do… here is what I recommended.

1 – First I said, you need to take care of yourself first. Working 2 jobs is very stressful. And she said she had a parrot that needed lots of attention because it was ill and she was overwhelmed with all that she had to do to take care of her pet. And I also said sometimes we have to take care of ourselves first. And maybe it would be better to give her beloved pet to someone for a while who had the time and means to take care of her so she was not so stressed out.

2 – Second, I said, learn meditation. You are stressed to the max and learning meditation will get rid of your anxiety and calm your mind and body. There is not much a person can do to improve their quality of life if they have so much anxiety that they are incapacitated. This will also improve your mood and help to make your sadness go away and help you to get to sleep at night. 3 – Third, I also said, you are not the only one who is sad. Lots of people are feeling overwhelmed right now so don’t feel bad that you are feeling this way. Right now we have more people who are stressed and overwhelmed than in any other time in the history of the planet. So let go of that feeling that you are the only one.

4 – Fourth, I recommended that you get out of the house and exercise. Exercise helps to increase serotonin in our brain and that brings about changes in our dopamine levels and thus we become happier. Just sitting around will make us feel depressed… we were meant to get up and get going and we feel better when we do something physical. Walking, swimming, bike riding, jogging, weight training all of these are good for the mind and the body.

5 – Fifthly, Prayer is important. Prayer makes us feel better about life. We can open up to God and express all our hidden feelings deep down inside this helps to cleans away pent-up emotions. And we are always being watched over by our guardian angels so it’s important to know we are not alone.

6 – Sixthly, I said it’s important to eat right. When we are sad lots of times we eat junk food and that doesn’t help anything. In fact, it makes us feel sad, and this has been proven. Eating lots of great fruits, veggies, and a few whole grains is important for feeling better about life. 7 – Seventh, work on correcting your limbic system. When we start cyclic sad thoughts this leads to the release of lots of chemicals in our limbic system that brings our mood down. And so we have a cycle that needs to be broken. And the only way we can do this is to watch our thinking… being mindful. Taking control of our thinking and correcting all negative and sad thoughts that come to mind. Thus the cycle is broken and we start to heal our limbic system.

8 – Eight, do some psychological counseling. Everyone needs to check in once in a while. And most counties have free psychological counseling or your insurance will cover so many visits to a counselor every year. Sometimes it’s important to see if our thinking is valid or not… sometimes we need a little course correction from someone who has experience in helping those in need.

9 – Ninth, get out and make some friends. This is very important sitting at home alone is not a good thing. Perhaps you don’t have any friends then join a club, go to your church and get around people. There are lots of ways to meet new people and have friends. This is very important.

And most of all remember that all will work out… this is important to keep in mind.

Many Blessings to Everyone!
