Despite our best efforts, many adults usually feel tired more days than not. Talking about exhaustion and fatigue is not an uncommon conversation to have with a friend, coworker, or partner. Feeling tired and suffering from sleep deprivation is prevalent across many individuals throughout the country. This can lead to less productivity, disease, illness and overall less enjoyment for life. Sleep is very important to your health and well-being, but sometimes just getting adequate sleep each night (seven to nine hours) isn’t enough to help you feel energized throughout the day. There are other things you can also do to help boost your energy and minimize fatigue.
1. Stay Hydrated
Drinking enough water throughout the day can have a significant impact on your energy and overall well-being. Being dehydrated, or not drinking enough water, can cause you to have low energy levels. There is not a standard amount of water every person should drink each day, as all individuals are different, but consuming about 90-125 ounces of water each day is sufficient. This equates to about 8 to 16 eight-ounce servings of water. Humans are made up of about 60 percent water, and it is used to support your joints, maintain the proper functioning of your organs (like kidneys), regulate your body temperature, remove waste, access vitamins and minerals and more. When your body is functioning optimally, you have the energy to both take care of your organs and tissues and also feel good and productive. If you find it difficult to just drink water, drinking flavored water, sparkling water or adding electrolytes to your water can make it easier to drink. These are beneficial so long as they do not add significant amounts of sugar to your water.
2. Take Supplements and Maintain a Healthy Diet
Eating a healthy diet and consuming enough vitamins and supplements can also help your body function optimally. These things can support your immune system and balance your hormones. Eating adequate amounts of fruits and vegetables, along with good sources of fat, protein, and carbohydrates, can help you feel better and more energized. There is no one-size-fits-all diet, as some people prefer to avoid meat, some people prefer to avoid gluten, and some people prefer to avoid food with a lot of carbohydrates. Other people may prefer to consume more carbohydrates, like rice or potatoes, but less fat, like oil and nuts. The best diet for you is the one that makes you feel good and energized. Though you can consume a lot of vitamins and nutrients in a healthy diet, it is hard to know or guarantee that you are consuming all of the vitamins and minerals you need to stay healthy and flourish. Taking supplements, such as a hormone balance supplement, can ensure that you are fueling your body with what it needs to stay healthy and energized. They can work by supporting better sleep, which will in turn help with energy levels, and can also support organ functioning, which can also positively affect energy levels.
3. Manage Stress
Stress can have a negative impact on your energy levels. Prolonged stress can lead to chronic fatigue and decreased energy levels. It can also disrupt sleep and cause insomnia, which may make you feel more fatigued throughout the day. There are many things you can do to help manage stress, which may then help increase energy levels. Some people find that light exercise, such as walking or yoga, can decrease stress. Intense exercise, like long amounts of cardio or heavy weight-lifting, is also helpful at times, but can increase stress in your body too much, too. Being aware of this is important. Other ways to manage stress include talking with a certified mental health professional, meditating, journaling, or spending quality time with a friend or loved one. If you are able to reduce the amount of stress you feel on a regular basis, you may be able to increase your energy levels.
