The Secret To A Happy Life

What is the secret to being happy? Money? Love? Health? Family?

While it’s possible for all of these to enhance happiness, it is also possible to have all of these in abundance and remain unhappy.

So if all that good stuff doesn’t guarantee happiness, what the heck can we do?!

Relax, Recharge, Reframe, Repeat.

Relax – This means spending time doing NOTHING. We sometimes think of watching TV as relaxing, but the mind is still busy in this activity. To truly relax we want to engage in nothing, and just be. Many clients have told me they can’t “just be” because it’s not relaxing. Their mind goes in 47 different directions, or finds one agitating thing to chew like a lion with a carcass. In this case it helps to gently move the focus to something boring like the slow cadence of inhale and exhale, the sound of ocean waves, or the hum of an air conditioner.

Recharge – This means spending time doing things that really give us energy, things that lift our spirits, raise our vibe, charge our batteries, refill our well, bring us into alignment with Source, and make us feel happy to be alive. This is different for each of us, but crucial to happiness. I encourage clients to keep a running list of everything that fits this category for them personally, and then incorporate them every chance they get.

Reframe – This means becoming aware of our thoughts/perspectives/beliefs and identifying the ones that drain our energy, then shifting those into thoughts/perspectives/beliefs that don’t drain us, or possibly even recharge us. Reframing is one of my superpowers! As a coach, it’s my favorite tool. Every day I help my clients identify the sneaky little thoughts that slip in and steal energy into perspectives that serve their health and well being in positive ways.

Repeat – Relax, Recharge, Reframe is the process. Repeating the process makes it a practice. This process is the secret to leading a happier, healthier, more fulfilled life. But it must be a PRACTICE. We don’t just do it once or twice and voila! – Life is better! No. It takes practice. We need to repeat the process again and again with each new challenge/opportunity that arises.

The secret to a happy life is simple: Relax. Recharge. Reframe. Repeat.
