What Happens When A Person Reaches Enlightenment?…

What Happens When A Person Reaches Enlightenment?

Enlightenment or Self-Realization means knowing who you really are. When you completely know experientially what is the Self (Pure Soul) and what is non-Self (Body, ego, mind, intellect, etc), you are fully enlightened!

Every person who progresses on the path of enlightenment; his final goal is liberation.

There are two stages of liberation:

First is when you feel freedom from inner turmoil, worldly problems, and miseries. After enlightenment, you are detached from the worldly pains. Whether others harass you or you face external difficulties, you remain in the bliss of the Pure Soul, which is your real Self. This state is the first stage of liberation, and it can be experienced here itself, while living your daily life.

The second stage of liberation, also referred to as the ultimate Moksha, is when all your karmas get completely exhausted and you attain Nirvana i.e. the last blissful death! Thereafter, you are totally liberated from the cycle of birth and death. This stage however can be attained only in the presence of a Living Tirthankar eg. Lord Shree Simandhar Swami, who is the Living Tirthankar on another planet called Mahavideh Kshetra.

Can the person truly live like that in the modern world?

Yes, he certainly can. In fact, with enlightenment, he lives a better life than the rest of the world, without any tension or stress, without any negativity or animosity, without getting emotional or worrisome!

Until one attains enlightenment, one lives on the basis of ego. The belief that ‘I am Akash (please place your name here)’ is called ego. This is the subtlest definition of ego. And where there is ego, there is bound to be a divided feeling of ‘yours’ and ‘mine’. And from this divided feeling, emerge negative emotions of anger, pride, deceit and greed. From these negative emotions, arise all kinds of sufferings and miseries.

And the happiness that we gain with the underlying belief that, “I am Akash” is all temporary happiness because after all, Mr. Aakash will live upto a max of around 100 years of age. And after he dies, his body, his family, his bungalow, his money will all remain here; it will be of no use to him once he passes away.

The ultimate truth is that ‘I am a Pure Soul.’

However, after enlightenment, we realize that the Soul is our permanent identity. We understand that the Soul is an eternal element; it is neither born nor does it ever die. The Soul, by its inherent nature, always remains pure. It is due to the Soul that we can know and see anything in this world.

The first stage of liberation, as stated above, is possible in this birth through Akram Vignan, the step-less path to Enlightenment. Here, we taste permanent happiness by attaining Self-Realization that makes us permanent!

In Akram Vignan, the Spiritual Master, Pujya Deepakbhai Desai, a committed follower of Param Pujya Dada Bhagwan (www.dadabhagwan.org), establishes us in our permanent identity of, “I am a Pure Soul” and thus puts us on the path of Enlightenment.

After receiving Self-Realization from the Spiritual Master, the divide of ‘yours’ and ‘mine’ gets destroyed as we begin to see every living being as a Pure Soul.

And later, as we follow the instructions of the Spiritual Master, with every passing day, the awareness of ‘I am a Pure Soul’ increases; and with it increases the experience of the eternal bliss of the Soul.

You don’t need to leave your family or Guru, you don’t need to renounce anything in this world, you don’t need to fast or follow any religious rituals either; you just have to increase the awareness of the Pure Soul.

“You do not have to renounce anything. The path of liberation is not one of acquisition or renunciation at all. Acquisition and renunciation are actually a part of the auspicious and inauspicious path. This Akram Science is actually a path to liberation; it is the path of attaining the absolute state of the Self (Parmatma Pad). One only has to understand it.”-Quote from Param Pujya Dada Bhagwan

Are there pros and cons of being enlightened in everyday life?

There are only pros, no cons of being enlightened, because the knowledge of the Self or Self-Realization is the Ultimate Truth (Param Sat)! Once we gain the right belief that really, “I am a Pure Soul” and Mr. Aakash is my temporary identity, the ego gets fractured. This is the biggest pro as we now stop charging new karmas, and thus get onto the path of liberation now!

Further, by remaining in the awareness of who we really are, all the faults that had arisen from the ego, such as anger, pride, deceit, and greed also begin to shed away. As they shed, we experience more and more liberation, for it is because of them that we experienced bondage.

Thus, to conclude…

I would suggest that you go ahead and get your name registered to receive Enlightenment i.e. Self-Realization from the Spiritual Master at the earliest. You don’t have to pay any charges or anything for it, but what you gain with the divine grace is a wonderful experience of the Pure Soul, our own real Self.
