5 Ways To Develop Your Intuition On The Spiritual Journey
Intuition is the direct light of the Soul.
Sometimes we have a problem or seem to be confused regarding some matter, while we are sitting silently and are in steadiness, all of a sudden we get a flash suggesting the path ahead. This is called intuition. On our spiritual journey, depending on one’s individual level of development, intuition will instruct us on how to proceed. Even the little puppy, while walking on a wall, may suddenly at one point feel, “This seems risky, I could fall from here”, and this intuition of his guides him and makes him come back.
One must always trust one’s intuition and guidance on the spiritual journey.
It is imperative that we trust our intuition and guidance to avoid the hassles on our path and progress with calmness and surety. However, what happens is, while on the journey, ego arises and from ego comes the intellect. As the ego and intellect develop more and more, they cover the light of Soul to that extent. In this world, everyone teaches us to develop our intellect, no one teaches us to trust our intuition. As a result, people choose to be driven by their intellect, and in the process, unfortunately, knowingly and unknowingly, the intuition gets suppressed.

Learn to identify the inner voice of intuition
How do you distinguish between our inner voice of intellect and that of intuition? That which shows good vs bad, profit vs loss, or shows us faults of others, know that it is the voice of intellect. And the voice of intuition comes from a clear and pure heart. The heart never indulges in selfish or vested interests, it always believes in the larger benefit of the society or community.
Know the advantage of intuition over the intellect
Pure heart, like a supreme power, is able to give us all the information that is required to guide us on our spiritual journey. Just like when the mirror is clear, one can observe many more things clearly and vividly, similarly when our heart is clear, we can observe many more objects which intellect can’t. Because we have no foresight or intuition, anger, pride, attachment, greed, etc. arise. Due to the layers of coverings of wrong intellectual and egoistic beliefs over our heart, we are unable to see what lies in front of us. And our intellect further aggravates the misunderstandings and disagreements which lead to arguments, inappropriate behavior, clashes, suffering, and frustration.
Resolve to maintain a clear heart
When our mind, speech, and body are busy helping others selflessly, it implies our heart is clear. A clear heart is the result of one’s past life wherein he has done good deeds, due to which his intellect is positive and therefore has lesser coverings of impurities on his heart. When our intention is to not hurt anybody, and there is an intention to always help everybody, our heart remains pure.
Intellect leads to unnecessary clashes which deplete our energy, whereas intuition shows us the way to peace. Intellect creates a divide between people and love for each other decreases then. Conflict is the foundation of the worldly life and its perpetual cycle. When we follow an intellect that divides, we create problems for ourselves, which follow us into the next life and create a lot of obstacles on our spiritual journey that delay our ultimate liberation (moksha).
Therefore our intention should always be to encourage the voice of intuition.
Our one resolve to ‘adjust everywhere and avoid clashes’ within us will encourage a spontaneous, inner, intuitive approach to problems that we may encounter on our journey from time to time. An intuitive approach always takes care that no one is hurt. It shows us the path whereby a lot of our own anger, pride, deceit, and greed get destroyed. With such approach we experience mental peace, our life runs smooth, we have good long-lasting relationships and as a result, we progress well on our spiritual journey and reach the ultimate destination without any confusion, under the divine guidance!
