10 Food Strategies To Rebalance The Root Chakra
If we wish to create anything in our lives, it requires finding our center and getting grounded. Being grounded creates the platform in which we feel secure, a sense of belonging, and a connection to the physical world. When grounded, you will find yourself confident, open to new things, and taking measures toward your goals and dreams. You will be willing to stretch your comfort zones to explore your life’s journey. As we all know, life is full of impermanence, making stability and support essential to, as Joseph Campbell states, following your bliss.
Let’s face it, sometimes we lose our way. We get into a rut. We become creatures of habit. We cling to our routines and may even begin to fear change. When our security and sense of belonging is disrupted, we dig in our heels and our lives become stagnant. We are no longer living, but merely surviving. In those times, we can reset and find our ground through our relationship with food.
Food goes beyond its physical properties of calories and grams of nutrients. Food has energetic characteristics that interact with our bio-field; more specifically, the energy centers within the body called chakras. Each chakra vibrates at a particular frequency that reflects a level of consciousness while impacting specific biological processes. For example, the root chakra energy influences the health of the immune system, digestion, physical bone structure, and adrenal glands; all elements pointing to safety and survival.
You can begin to rebalance energy flow to your root chakra, to reset and find your ground, through these following food strategies.

10 Food Strategies to Rebalance the Root Chakra
1. Emphasize plant-based protein. Plant-based proteins are more bio-available by design than animal proteins, and also elicit an anti-inflammatory and alkaline ash supporting the body’s self-healing and immune processes; essential to the root chakra’s health. Add lentils, quinoa, oats, peas, and almonds to your diet.
2. Incorporate immune-boosting foods. The root chakra, reflecting our survival and safety in the physical world, is linked to our immune defenses. Add the immune protective cruciferous vegetables to your diet. Some options include Brussels sprouts, watercress, arugula, broccoli, cauliflower, cabbage, bok choy, and kale.
3. Incorporate root vegetables into your diet. Root vegetables have an innate grounding vibration, in addition to being loaded with the Earth’s minerals and fiber. During these unsteady times consider eating carrots, parsnips, turnips, beets, rutabaga, and sweet potatoes.
4. Add the pungent flavor. The pungent flavor helps in removing stagnancy and moving energy and blood flow. Pungent foods include garlic, scallions, fennel, ginger, basil, and peppermint.
5. Eat red colored foods. Colors are the physical manifestations of energy frequencies with red resonating with the root chakra. Add beets, tomatoes, raspberries, tomatoes, radicchio, and red peppers to your meals.
6. Eat meals cooked. Our digestive system is intimately linked to the root chakra, where 70% of our immunity resides. Cooking foods supports the health of the stomach and spleen making for the best assimilation of nutrients during unsteady times.
7. Resist the sweet cravings. Sweet is craved when you need some stability in your life, a sense of grounding, and connection to something larger than yourself. See if you can sit in the craving and learn about what it is you are truly craving. It is not the cookie!
8. Eat outdoors whenever possible. Being in nature is the ultimate grounding boost! Have a picnic, host a BBQ, or eat at an outdoor café.
9. Share food with others. Sharing food with others is a nurturing act of the root chakra. Instead of freezing extra food, share with a friend, neighbor, or coworker.
10. Eat only until 70% full. Eating in excess to feel physical sensations of fullness is a way to slow our vibration especially when we struggle with security or not feeling connection with others. Do your best to slow down when eating. Take time to fully chew allowing your body to communicate signals of fullness.
