3 Scientific Books That Will Make You Rethink Reincarnation
How Reincarnation Works
Certainly, it can be said reincarnation is a well accepted idea in the east; but in the west, it’s a different story.
Most people subscribe to Christianity or its branches, rejecting the idea of reincarnation outright.
Not only that, but many academics are not interested in studying reincarnation when it’s not something that they grew up with learning or knowing about.
In short: it’s just not a topic widely discussed, and therefore not well researched.
But that has been slowly changing…
Dr. Ian Stevenson (psychiatrist) basically created the entire scientific discussion about reincarnation.
Not only that, but Dr. Stevenson’s work is the most well-respected published scientific material on the subject!
Stevenson meticulously categorized and studied children who claimed to have past lives all around the world, more often than not proving they had some validity.
Many times, children’s birth marks and birth defects had interesting similarities to the wounds on the deceased person.
“Reincarnation, at least as I conceive it, does not nullify what we know about evolution and genetics. It suggests, however, that there may be two streams of evolution — the biological one and a personal one — and that during terrestrial lives these streams may interact.”
Dr. Michael Newton, a clinical psychologist, experimented extensively with his clients using past-life regression techniques such as hypnotherapy.
His technique included regressing the subjects to a point between lives- after death and before being born again.
He found that many of his clients routinely gave the same explanations and descriptions, often describing the spirit world in vivid detail.
Noting a huge similarity between the descriptions, Dr. Newton
“I also found that it did not matter if a person was an atheist, deeply religious, or believed in any philosophical persuasion in between— once they were in the proper superconscious state of hypnosis, all were consistent in their reports….” Dr. Newton
Jim Tucker is a psychologist at the University of Virginia who took over the work of Dr. Ian Stevenson when he retired in 2002.
He travels the country and investigates children claiming to have past lives, often with extraordinary results.
Children are typically very young, around the ages of 3-6…and the details they remember are quite incredible.
One of his most famous cases was a boy in Hollywood who remembered being a Hollywood extra and agent. The case got so much attention that Dr. Tucker was interviewed on NPR.
“If people look into it, they find that it has been a very carefully done scientific work for a very long time. There is no reason that unusual phenomenon or paranormal phenomenon can’t be studied with the same sort of scientific approach that you would use to study any other phenomenon.”
It’s interesting to see that there is actually scientific exploration on this subject- with evidence that makes a person pause.
Not only that, but the cases themselves are so compelling, it’s almost impossible to deny that something is going on.
What do you think? Is reincarnation real?
