Out Of Anger, Pride, Lust, Greed, Which Is Very Hard To Conquer For Spiritual Upliftment?

If there is anything that is very hard to conquer for spiritual upliftment, it is the ego!

Why the ego?

It is because ego is the basis of anger, pride, lust, greed, envy and attachment. Hence, primarily, it is the ego that obstructs our spiritual upliftment. All other emotions are enabled by your ego. Greed for materialistic pleasures is enabled by your ego. Jealousy, pride and arrogance comes from your ego. Deceit, cheating and lying comes from your ego. Lust, attraction, and attachment comes from the ego. Your ego is the false belief of who you really are!

What is ego?

Ego means the false ‘I’. To claim to be something you are not, is called ego.

You are really not ‘John (please insert your name here)’ and yet you believe you are ‘John’. That is called ego! Let’s understand how…

‘I’ refers to existence. All living beings are aware of their own existence – “I am”. However, they do not know who they are – “What I am”. This is why all of us mistakenly believe the body or the name given to the body to be our self.

For example, one would say, ‘I am John.’ But that is a name given to identify the body. The name could change anytime. You are not the body as well. The body will die after a few years. But you remain. That is the reason you claim, “In my past life, I was…” So who is this ‘I’? That is what we need to realise!

Ego can be removed by attaining Self-realisation (to realise who really am I)

Through Akram Vignan, we can attain Self-Realisation directly with the grace of the Enlightened One (Gnani Purush). Here, your ego is destroyed.

Param Pujya Dada Bhagwan, the Enlightened being, says, “Spirituality is not in the form of rituals; it is, in fact, a perspective (drashti). The people of the world have a worldly perspective, whereas this is a spiritual perspective. After the Gnani Purush (the One who has realised the Self and is able to do the same for others) turns around one’s perspective, spirituality can be Seen on that side.”

So, when the right belief of ‘I am a pure Soul’ gets set through the knowledge of the Self, our spiritual upliftment begins. The emotions of anger, lust, greed, envy, and attachment then naturally dissipate in the presence of the Self, by seeing each one respectively, without being affected, this is termed as being Self-realised.

In Self-Realisation, our vision becomes pure.

With this pure vision, we can see the pure Soul in others and not their faults. And we can see our own faults of pride, anger, greed, lust, attachment, etc. more vividly, because the ego is gone, and hence we become impartial now towards the mistakes in John.

Therefore, after Self-Realisation, we can ‘see’ every mistake, associated with anger, ego, lust, greed, envy and attachment. As more and more mistakes come in our ‘vision’ through the light of the Soul (Self), they begin to dissipate as soon they are seen.

Param Pujya Dada Bhagwan says, “As, long as anger-pride-deceit-greed (kashays – which give pain to the Soul) have not gone away, one has not attained even slightest of the Vitraag’s (the Enlightened One’s) religion. The religion of the Enlightened One (Vitaraag Dharm) means the absence of anger-pride-deceit-greed (kashays).”

So come, through Akram Vignan, let’s attain Self-Realisation directly with the grace of the Enlightened One (Gnani Purush), and get our ego destroyed, as this is the shortest path to get rid of all our vikars!
