Light a candle and offer it into the night. The new moon of Nov 4 (2:14 pm PT) has a mysterious inner light. The new moon falls between the world of the living and the realm of spirit, just days after All Hollows Eve and the Day of the Dead, a time to honor and connect with those who have passed away.
This magical new moon is celebrated in India as Diwali, the “festival of lights.” On this night, lamps (Diyas) and candles are lit to invoke the power of light over darkness, knowledge over ignorance, and hope over despair.
It’s also said the goddess of wealth and prosperity, Laksmi Devi, comes down to bless the earth now. Homes are cleaned and new clothing purchased to call in blessings of abundance for the year to come. Ganesha, the remover of obstacles, is also honored.
According to Vedic Astrology, this new moon is in the area of the sky called Swati nakshatra. Swati is the independent or “self-going” star, known for its flexibility, strength and resilience. Swati is a star that grants inner strength in the face of change and instability.

Swati is connected to prana, the energy that breathes life within us and around us. Vayu, the Vedic god of wind, rules over Swati full moon. Observing your breath can have a profound effect on the mind, body and soul on this new moon. Yogic breathing exercises or simply connecting with the heart chakra through your breath is very beneficial now.
Take heed, the God of War, Mars, is combust on the new moon, and in a fierce alignment with communicative Mercury. Avoid unnecessary conflict, confusing arguments, and rushed travel.
This is the last new moon before we enter eclipse season, and an important time to prepare for a big collective shift. Eclipses magnify the powers of destiny and catalyze opportunities for new growth. Use this new moon to take stock of your intentions and plans, cultivate inner strength and courage, and reconnect with the light of spirit.
How this influence will affect you depends on how these planets are transiting your birth chart, book a personal astrology reading me to learn more.
