New Moon in Scorpio: It’s time to go to the dark side
Somewhere, in each and every one of us, there’s a deep hunger to understand, to seek, to know.
There’s a longing to merge. We want to feel connected, loved and seen. We want to trust that we will be taken care of, even when life is a mystery. But it’s not so easy to feel those things in our heart, or know them to be true. Especially when our ego has us looking through one lens, while our emotions have us looking through another.
When our ego is distorted (as most egos are), it distracts us with shiny things, juicy desires, reminders of failure, admonitions to “behave”, and stories about the way people judge us.
When our emotions are distorted (as most emotions are), they keep us busy with real-time suffering, memories of pain, avoidance of anything that feels bad, and comparison.
How are we supposed to do the deep work needed to feel true connection, with all of this distraction and diversion?
The New Moon in Scorpio on November 18, 2017, brings us an opportunity to clear away that clutter and harness the clean (and undistorted) power of both the ego (Sun) and the emotions (Moon). It brings an invitation to use them as one would use an ancient stone stairwell, to descend into the depths of your psyche and your soul.
Scorpio descends, because it doesn’t do surface level, it does depth. Pluto (the ruler of Scorpio), is primarily interested in exploration of darkness and shadow. He demands that things die, so that they can be reborn. This sounds rather exciting and mysterious, and yet, the prospect of death is a daunting one because it means we’ll have to give something up in order to evolve.
A New Moon is a time of planting seeds and starting fresh. With the energy of the Sun and Moon merging together, the time is ripe to explore some of the ego and emotional structures in your life that aren’t serving you. Are you willing to look in the dark cellar of your soul to see what those structures are?
You’ll have both a shove, as well as some supportive help, in doing just that. Uranus in Aries, in a quincunx to the Sun and Moon, brings extreme tension to the situation. Uranus demands revolution and change. He doesn’t appreciate conformity, and he likes movement. In other words, Uranus insists that you turn on the light in that cellar and at least pull out a few old and broken things to throw away.
A trine to Chiron in Pisces, will act as the kind friend you bring along to keep you company. Chiron the wounded healer, will gently push you to get rid of the sharp and dangerous objects that keep you stuck and in pain, and he will help you dust off and shine up anything that may still be of use to you.
The energies of a New Moon only last the week, so don’t fear. This is a short burst of intensity, but if you’re ready and willing to capitalize on it, you will grow and transform in some very satiating ways.
There is a candle in your heart, ready to be kindled.
There is a void in your soul, ready to be filled.
You feel it, don’t you?
