Letting go is hard. Letting go of relationships, an experience, control, anything; it’s just difficult. But sometimes, acknowledging the fact that we need to let go of something is even harder. We resist it, argue with ourselves, convince ourselves there’s a good reason why we shouldn’t.
But we know. Our Soul knows. It’s time to let go. To release.

Awareness is the First Step
When we admit to ourselves that something isn’t working anymore, we’ve conquered half the process. The mental chaos and stress we experience by resisting causes more drama than the act of letting go. I say this because, usually, when we’re resisting letting go it’s because we come up with all of the excuses as to why we should hang on. That we’re just feeling emotional and need to stop being so negative. Or if we walk away, we’re giving up. Through the process of resisting, we blame ourselves.
It’s okay to want change. It’s okay to grow. It’s okay to change your mind. And it’s okay admit when something isn’t in your highest good anymore and it’s time to move on. The only thing that is a constant is change. So, don’t blame yourself. Don’t feel guilty. Don’t apologize for growing. Don’t apologize for finding you. And don’t apologize for following your intuition. Your allegiance and loyalty are to your Soul’s Purpose. In the process, be kind, be compassionate, and be loving. But LET GO of what is no longer serving you and your Dharma (purpose in life).
Questions to Ask
Letting go of relationships, friendships, jobs, etc. can be very difficult but is part of life. Not all relationships, jobs, experiences and meant to last your entire lifetime and only you know which are. You’ll know it’s time to let go by the way you feel after thinking of or being around the source (person, job, situation, etc).
- When talking about it, do you feel expansive or contractive?
- When talking about it. do you feel light or heavy?
- After leaving an encounter, are you excited to have another? Or feeling grateful you got it out of the way?
These are all simple questions to ask yourself when deciding if it’s time to let go. Anything that feeds the Soul is light, expansive, and high vibration. You get excited and motivated. When it’s time to let go, these encounters will leave you feeling heavy, dull, and drained. Your Soul communicates to you through the physical body. Listen to it. Honor it. You are the one living your life. You have a right to kindly and compassionately let go of anyone and anything that is not serving your Higher Purpose.
