The Power Of Thoughts

The power of your thoughts is immense. Whether you realize this consciously or subconsciously, your thoughts actively shape the outcome of anything you do. Given this, is it not better to try to focus on positive thoughts? More fundamentally, to ensure you do not become a slave to the incessant musings of the mind, you need to comprehend its inherent nature. Once you do so and recognize the key to unlock the workings of the mind, you will experience immense freedom.

The inherent nature of the mind:-

It cannot stop thinking

The nature of the mind is to think: these thoughts can be either good or bad, beneficial or harmful. Even when you do not want to think, the mind will continue to do its job.

Its thoughts are packets of information which you can choose to ignore

It is the duty of the mind to inform or warn you just like a radar will do to the pilot on a plane. The radar (mind) will say look there is a plane coming towards you, please be careful otherwise you will get hurt. Whether you choose to heed the advice or act upon the thoughts is entirely your choice.

Your thoughts are a direct result of your intent in your previous life

All thoughts which you are seeing or experiencing currently were sown in your past life. As these thoughts (from the past) dissipate, simultaneously you are creating new ones for your next life. This is done through your intent and forming opinions.

For example, your mind says to you ‘what will happen if your friend succeeds in securing a job in the same workplace as you’? At that time, if your intent remains positive then you will bind a good karma. Conversely, if you form a negative opinion then you will bind bad karma. Regardless, karma will be sown for your next life depending on the opinion you have formed. And thus, the intent will manifest into good or bad thoughts depending upon the karma you have formed.

The only way to be liberated from the incessant mind is to gain Self-Realization

It is the mind which has bound you to the worldly life and it is also the same mind which can liberate you from torments of the worldly life. You only need to know how to wield the mind to work for you and your goals.

Knowledge of the Self will keep the mind under your control thus charging of karmas will stop – making the mind subservient to you. The mind is a film which just needs to be seen and known and never become one with it. With the knowledge of the Self, you will be the seer and knower of the thoughts.

You will only see and know the thoughts of the mind as they sprout. You will not become one with the thoughts. This is analogous to touching a fire and experiencing its heat or passively perceiving the fire from afar. To clarify when thoughts occur if you see them then you will not be affected. However, if you unit with the thoughts you will experience suffering.
