Self-awareness is the ability to know who you are and what you want. It’s the ability to be aware of your thoughts, feelings, emotions, and desires. A self-aware person knows how they feel about themselves and other people. Awareness of one’s self is also the ability to recognize when you’re feeling angry or frustrated or when you need help with something. This level of awareness helps us make better decisions and choose healthier behaviors.
There’s no doubt that self-awareness is an important skill, especially in today’s world, where social media has made us more exposed than ever before. What does self-awareness look like in practice? For example, if I’m feeling low or anxious, I can identify these feelings as they arise in my body and mind. Once I’ve identified them, then I can do something about it – such as taking a break from work or meditating for a few minutes until I feel better again. That’s how self-awareness works!
In a spiritual context, self-awareness means having an intimate knowledge of your inner self. It is about knowing who you are at your core and how you express yourself as a person. It’s about knowing your strengths and weaknesses. It’s about knowing what motivates you in life and brings you joy.
Self-awareness also means being aware of your body’s needs and limitations to take care of yourself better. As a spiritual person, you must be well grounded to live a whole life. A significant step on the journey to enlightenment is self-awareness because it allows us to see who we are beyond the mask of the ego. The ego is a concept that psychologist Carl Jung first introduced in the 1920s. He believed that everyone has an inner self and an outer self. The outer self is what we show to other people, while the inner self is who we are deep down inside. The ego is that part of us that tries to control everything so that we can feel safe and secure in life.
The problem with this concept is that it doesn’t consider how much time we spend trying to manipulate others into thinking that we’re better than they are! It also places too much emphasis on external factors like money, beauty, fame, and power, which don’t last forever anyway!

We are eternal beings
When we die, and our physical body is buried or cremated, fame, money, and other material and earthly things disappear, but we are eternal. These aspects of our identity are only temporary. The ego is the part that identifies with these temporary aspects of ourselves.
When used properly, the ego can be a helpful tool, but it can also be very destructive and limiting if not kept in check. The ego makes us feel separate from each other and God. When we see others as different from ourselves, it creates an illusion of separation, creating a sense of lack and scarcity. It leads to competition rather than cooperation; it leads to judgment rather than acceptance; it leads to fear rather than love; it leads to hate rather than forgiveness; etc.
The way out of all this suffering is through self-awareness and releasing the ego. We must become aware of our thoughts and feelings to begin to understand what drives us in life. Once we know this, then we can start letting go of old beliefs that no longer serve us in our lives today because they were formed at some point in the past when things were different than they are today.
The ego is about fear
The ego is all about keeping you in a constant state of fear. It’s the part of you that is always worried about what someone thinks about you or what will happen if you make a mistake. It is constantly seeking to protect itself from any perceived threat, and it does this by creating stories and scenarios that reinforce its core beliefs. When we’re not aware of the ego, it takes control over our lives. We become reactive instead of proactive, and we spend more time paying attention to what other people think than paying attention to what we want in life.
But once we become aware of our egos’ inner dialogue, we can start working on changing it into something more positive and supportive. It can be difficult to find a way out of the ego’s clutches when we don’t know how to do this work. The ego thrives on comparison — it wants to compare yourself to others and see how you measure up. It also wants others to reach themselves to you to feel better about themselves if they think that they are better than you or worse than you.
Release the need to judge others or ourselves
The first thing we need to do is release the need to judge ourselves and others. Judging yourself or other people is a waste of energy because it’s not your job to think – it’s your job to love. When you release judgment, you can be more compassionate and loving towards yourself and others. When you are compassionate, you can be open to hearing what someone has to say without reacting negatively. This helps create an environment where people feel safe enough to share their feelings with you. Another way to release the ego is by becoming aware of how it impacts your life daily. For example, if you find yourself thinking about something negative about someone else, notice how this makes you feel inside (angry, hurt, sad). Then take a step back from those negative thoughts and ask yourself these three questions:
- What did I just do?
- What was my intention behind what I just did?
- How would I feel if I had compassion for myself right now?
Life is a journey, and the purpose of this journey is to become conscious. The ego can be defined as the part of us that believes it is separate from others, the world, and God. The goal of life is to get rid of the ego so we can be in harmony with all things, but it is hard because we are born into a world that teaches us that we are not perfect. However, following the heart leads us to the gateway of who we are.
Following the heart takes us to the gateway of finding our true selves
We are all born with a divine spark. Our purpose is to shine that light into the world. When we are not in alignment with our true selves, we suffer. We feel disconnected and as if something is missing. But when we follow our hearts, things begin to align and come together. We find our true selves and start to live from that place.
The heart is not only an organ that pumps blood through the body; it is also a symbol of love, compassion, and wisdom. It represents our intuition and inner voice, guiding us through life’s challenges. When we listen to our hearts, we can make decisions that are aligned with who we are as individuals—not what others want or expect from us or what society thinks is acceptable behavior for someone in our situation or role in life.
Our true selves can’t be found in the material world
To be truly successful in life, we must become aware of our inner selves and our true nature. The ego is a part of us that knows only itself. It does not know anything about others or what they are thinking or feeling at any given moment in time. The ego is always looking for external validation through the approval of others or material possessions like money, luxury items, and fancy cars.
The ego doesn’t care about others because it only cares about itself and its well-being above all else – even if that means sacrificing other people’s happiness along the way to fulfill its own selfish needs and desires (which usually involve dominating other people). However, another part of ourselves exists beyond our egos – which is known as our higher consciousness or spirit (or whatever you choose to call it).
Raising your vibration
When you raise your vibration, you exist on a higher plane. You are more in tune with the universe, and therefore you have a better grasp of what is going on around you and within you. Instead of being pulled into the same old patterns that keep us stuck, we can see more clearly where we are going in life. Instead of just feeling like everything is out of control, we can also see what we need to do to get there.
Raising your vibration will allow you to live a more conscious life where everything seems more accessible and more natural for you. It’s about living from a place of love instead of fear or negativity, which ultimately makes us happier people who attract better things into our lives such as success, happiness, peace, and joy! It’s possible to raise your vibration through meditation, the healing powers of sound, and even a healthy diet. It takes a clear mind, body, and spirit to begin your elevation toward becoming the highest version of yourself.
A clear mind, body, and spirit is key to igniting the light within
With each passing day, we become more aware of our inner world and its outer manifestations of it. Our perception is shifting from a limited view of the world to a more expansive one; from blame to balance; from fear to love; from ego to spirit. We are awakening from the illusion that we have been living in for thousands of years. As we move through this awakening process, our hearts are opening up to a higher love frequency than ever before.
This higher love frequency is what connects us all together as one human race on this planet earth. It’s what connects us all together as one spirit within this universe. It’s what connects us all together as one God or Source of energy. It’s what connects us all together as one source of consciousness that is projecting itself through many different forms this time here on planet earth right now! As we open up our hearts through self-awareness and release the ego-self, we can become aware of how our own thoughts are creating our reality right here right now in this present moment!
