The Power Of A New Chapter, New Beginning

“Don’t close the book when bad things happen in your life, turn the page and begin a new chapter”- Buddha

Are you ready for a new beginning? Have you learned the lessons from the past? Are you ready to write your new love story?

A quote from the West African Translation of Sankofa speaks to our life’s journey, “We must go back and reclaim our power so that we can move forward; so we can understand how and why we came to be who we are”. The Sankofa is a mystical and metaphorical symbol used by the Akan people of Ghana depicted as a bird with its feet pointed forward and head turned backward taking an egg from its back. This powerful exotic symbol is an expression of the value of reaching back to knowledge gained in the the past and bringing it into the present in order to make positive progress. It’s time to let go, release fear and write a new love story for your life. This requires choosing freedom, dreaming big, flowing with life, and living intimately.

Choose freedom

Oftentimes, we feel boxed in by life challenges with no options out of our problem situations. James Baldwin, American novelist, poet, essayist and activist quotes, ” Freedom is not something that anybody can be given. We can imprison ourselves”. It is a state of mind and being physically free, you may still feel as though you are in bondage. Therefore, self-defeating thoughts and faulty beliefs must be reframed with empowering thoughts, “I am free and freedom is my divine birthright”. Victor Frankl, Austrian Holocaust survivor, philosopher and psychiatrist shared how attitude is important in sustainability, “Everything can be taken from a man but one thing. The last of the human freedoms- to choose one’s attitude in any given set  of circumstances, to choose one’s own way”.

No matter what previous chapters encumbered, there is always an opportunity for a new beginning. Our attitude and choices are paramount as stipulated by Erich Fromm that man cannot escape from freedom. So choose wisely, release fear, and make life affirming choices for the highest good of yourself and others. Freedom provides the opportunity for us to fully experience ourselves and the richness of life.

Dream big

There is a magical power in dreaming big. Imagine how you would like your life to be. Use the power of imagination that inspires creativity. Ponder the details of vivid images, thoughts, and emotions of having already achieved your heart’s desires. Feel the start of something new! Take inspired action to make your dreams a reality. Release the burden of guilt, shame and unworthiness that  make us feel undeserving of goodness in our lives. Forgive and let go. Celebrate who you are and have the courage to dream big!

Flow with life

Preoccupied with the past and obsessed with the future leaves no space for the present moment. The ebb and flow of life is filled with a plethora of experiences that makes us who we are. Accept natural endings and appreciate new beginnings. Stay alert and welcome the signs, synchronicities and opportunities that are bestowed upon us through grace and divine love. Reframe from being stifled and looking back with doubt and fear. Stay in the flow of life, with grace and ease, and know that all is aligned to help us evolve on our life’s journey.

Live intimately

Living intimately makes us have a better relationship with ourselves and the divine power that anchors us in love. We can appreciate our connection to the whole of the universe. Look around and capture the beauty of nature and in all you encounter, especially  yourself. Don’t just listen, but hear the sounds of the birds, the lyrics of a beautiful song, and the innocent chatter of children. Don’t just look, but see the intricate beauty of a flower. Feel the small comforts of home and those sacred places where you can escape in solitude to connect with your inner self. Capture these significant moments that give you a fresh appreciation and outlook on life.

The way forward

Create a new vision for your life and take inspired action to make your dreams a reality. Be grateful for the gift of life, and the opportunity to write a new chapter with each moment as a stepping stone to propel you forward. Capture the wholeness and fullness of life by honoring  your feelings. Look for beauty, feel good, be free, and love life. Keep a journal to chart your progress. Write your memorable chapter as a legacy of love. It’s your choice. Choose love over fear and see where it takes you.
