The Importance Of Seeking Truth…

The Importance Of Seeking Truth

“That which is false troubles the heart, but truth brings joyous tranquility” -Rumi

The knowledge of truth is empowering and guides us to purposeful living. We are shaped by our values and beliefs that may be questioned with a quest for truth to give meaning to life. As quoted by Buddha, “Those who have failed to work toward truth have missed the purpose of living”. Truth is important and frees us from ignorance and corruption that is rampant in society. The Biblical quote from (John 8:32), “The truth will set you free“, is applicable to everyday life. We are confronted with traps of untruths infiltrating corporations, media, and other establishments that influence our beliefs and interactions with others.

Lack of truth damages reputations and decreases trust. Many are seeking justice and human dignity worldwide because of corruption, greed, and lack of compassion. Unfortunately, we witness leaders motivated by self-centered greed and intense craving for power that is self-destructive and harmful to others. This behavior is demonstrated in all facets of society where truth is sacrificed for personal favors and gain with little or no regard for human welfare.

Truth always prevails and it is important for us to seek, hear, speak, learn and love it. Truthfulness matters to society as a whole and enables us to grow and learn from life experiences. It gives us hope. Buddha quotes, “Life doesn’t allow for us to go back and fix what we have done wrong in the past, but it does allow for us to live each day better than the last”. Truth is achieved by being sincere, adopting a critical thinking mindset, being your own yardstick, keeping a healthy balance, and living your truth.

Be sincere

Sincerity is an ingredient in the Spectrum of Love by Henry Drummond. It builds character, gives you a sense of self-worth, and helps you live in integrity with yourself.  As quoted by Buddha, “Always speak how you feel and never be sorry for being real”. By being sincere, we accept what is real, strive to get at facts, and search for truth with a humble and unbiased mind. Sincerity involves practicing self-restraint by refusing to expose the weakness and flaws of others. Sincerity of purpose endeavors to see things as they are; and encourages honesty, builds trust, fosters deep connections with others. We become better for ourselves and more compassionate with others which extends to all areas of our life.

Adopt a critical thinking mindset

Truth-seeking opens the door to a fresh outlook. Critical thinking enables us to be objective, achieve clarity, be fair, and engage in creative problem-solving. Informed decisions can be attained based on observing, collecting relevant facts, questioning, reasoning, and reflecting. Truth brings you in harmony with yourself and congruent with your thoughts, feelings, and actions. Adopting a critical thinking mindset helps us become organized, open-minded, and self-disciplined without a rush to judgment based on personal feelings, self-centered emotions, and societal beliefs. Barriers to critical thinking can result in the loss of resources, relationships, and opportunities.  A critical thinking mindset can be incorporated into our daily life to give us a wider view and shape how we relate and interact with others.

Be your own yardstick

Be true to your values that should be reflected in your actions. Have a vision for your life that encompasses your dreams, goals, and lifestyle desired. Measure yourself by your own yardstick to achieve personal satisfaction and fulfillment. We can all identify with feelings of unworthiness that can be triggered at any moment by living up to the expectations of others in addition to comparing ourselves with others. We sacrifice our truth when we do not feel worthy and lose ourselves in the context of personal and social relationships. Cultural and societal influences may promote faulty beliefs and conditioning absorbed subconsciously such as images of beauty and success.

As said by Jidda Krishamurti, “The man who is seeking truth is free of all societies and cultures”. Accept yourself and move through life with grace and ease. Maintain your personal power by knowing the truth of who you are. Embrace your true self. Make a commitment to live in integrity with your values. Hold yourself accountable and be your own yardstick to become the best version of yourself.

Keep a healthy balance

A balanced lifestyle helps you maintain physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual well-being. Adopt standards for living that enhance quality living. Preservation of our energy maximizes vitality and enables us to experience the wholeness of life.  Take time to examine your life. Pay attention to how you feel. What do you need to let go? What adds value to your life? Be your authentic self and manage your life with purpose. Be intentional in caring for yourself. Allow time to express your creativity and engage in activities that you enjoy. Be grateful for the opportunity to be here now. Empower yourself by making choices that bring you comfort, peace, and joy.

Live your truth

What beliefs and principles influence how you live? It takes courage to be who you are. Adhere to higher standards of accuracy. As quoted by Einstein, “The ideals which have always shone before me and filled me with joy are goodness, beauty, and truth”. Embrace all of who you are and live as your most authentic self. “If you want to be trusted, be honest. If you want to be honest, be true. If you want to be true, be yourself”, quoted by Buddha. Anchor in the power of love, your divine birthright, and know that validation comes from within.  Live your legacy and make your mark on the world. Be respectful and truthful in relationships. Have the courage to communicate with honesty and trust your inner wisdom.

Conclusion

Truth is a strong moral compass that gives us freedom and brings peace to our soul. Keep a healthy vision for yourself and the world. As Gandhi quotes, “Be the change you want to see in the world”. Move beyond fear and resolve within yourself to be truthful. It makes life simple and less complicated. Seek truth and share it accurately with others to build stronger relationships and communities. You will live a more authentic life, become more confident, and be respected. Most importantly, you will love who you are and who you are becoming.
