7 Reasons Meditation Should Be Taught In Schools

“If every eight year old in the world is taught meditation, we will eliminate violence from the world within one generation.” –Dalai Lama

Anyone can Learn Meditation

I learned meditation at 16, and it completely changed the way I felt and operated at school.

It was like a light bulb had gone off inside me, and I could finally feel relaxed. It was invigorating.

My grades improved, along with my self-esteem and my ability to handle challenging situations.

I know that the quote above is true- because I can honestly say if I hadn’t discovered meditation at that point, my life would be drastically different.

It made me a peaceful person, and I know it can help so many other kids too.

Here’s why.

Meditation is one of the bust stress-busters out there, and children certainly need that.

With the increasing demands of school and normal pressures of growing up, kids can feel easily overwhelmed.

A technique that helps them let go of their stress can be an invaluable skill to have throughout life.

Concentration is crucial to studying and learning, right?

Science has shown that meditation literally builds gray matter in the prefrontal cortex, boosting the ability to focus for long periods of time.

And that makes sense; after all, meditation is all about focusing.

Since meditation naturally calms a practitioner, it subtly begins to shift their perspective.

This can help them see what they may or may not be doing wrong in certain situations, and could help prevent all kinds of tough social interactions, especially with regards to bullies.

This is because they come to understand their actions harm others.

When kids are relaxed and calm, they’re much better able to absorb their studies and get along with others.

On every level, they’re just able to function better.

Meditation can do that.

With all its anxiety-reducing and calmness-boosting benefits, the immune system can be greatly strengthened.

This is certainly a good thing, because kids can often get sick from school!

And hey, if they get it, you can too.

Meditation can greatly aid the ability to sleep, especially if practiced right before bed.

That’s because a calm mind isn’t jumping all around at night with restless thoughts.

Kids need lots of sleep to grow healthy and strong- and there isn’t anything that can help an exhausted kid at school.

Not just kids, but every person wants to be happy.

Meditation boosts optimism and creates a positive outlook.

Happy kids= more productive kids, right?
