I’m Liz Getman, And This Is My Dharma

Liz studied Hatha and Hridaya (spiritual heart) yoga at Mahadevi Ashram & Kaivalya Yoga School in Tzununá, Guatemala, where she developed Cacaoga®, a class that unifies sacred, ceremonial cacao with heart-centered yoga and meditation. In addition to teaching yoga, Cacaoga®, and Zumba®, Liz guides meditation and leads local and international retreats. She is honored to serve as the program director of YogaLoka, a nonprofit organization that brings yoga and holistic health practices to historically marginalized populations. Check out Liz’s ponderings about life, spirituality, and yoga on Elephant Journal, or join her for a guided meditation on the app Insight Timer.

Love, compassion, and little bit of crazy

I am inspired by change-makers. I am inspired by those who work to even the playing field for all. I am inspired by various forms of art but especially music. (Few move me like Whitney Houston.) I am inspired by those who choose to love regardless of the circumstances.

Cultivate love and compassion for all beings and inspire others to do the same.

“Love is the bridge between you and everything.” – Rumi

Our thoughts have so much power over us and how we choose to show up in the world. The idea of speaking thoughts into existence might sound silly or far-fetched at first, but when we think about the connection of our thoughts to our emotions, and our emotions to our actions, it becomes a bit clearer. How do you respond to others when you are feeling joyful or calm? How do you respond when you are aggravated? Thoughts feed emotions, and emotions influence how we speak and act. Use words and phrases that help you visualize and manifest what you’d like to create in your life. Instead of “I want to accomplish (insert your goal here), try: “I will accomplish (insert your goal here).” Instead of, “I wish I were more (your descriptor here),” try: “I am (your descriptor here; e.g. abundant, powerful, peaceful, beautiful).” This practice may take time to cultivate, but the benefits for the mind, heart, and spirit are numerous.
