Feeling lost in the dark? The Lunar Eclipse of July 4 is the last in a series of volatile eclipses that have cast a shadow of unrest since May. If you’re ready for new growth, now is the time to uproot negative beliefs and reconnect to a light of truth and love within you.
This partial lunar eclipse will be visible in the US, Europe, Africa, and the Americas, peaking between 9:29 and 9:44 pm PT. This is a penumbral lunar eclipse and will not be as apparent as a total lunar eclipse.
The mid-summer full moon is celebrated as Guru Purnima, a day to honor your teachers, mentors, and guides. The word guru also translates as “dispeller of darkness.” This full moon can shine light into our blind spots, and help us see the compassion and wisdom within.

Like the rushing waters of life itself, Purva Ashadha full moon holds the shakti to invigorate and energize our world. Vedic water goddesses called Apas inhabit this star, as well as the oceans, rivers and streams that continually flow across the earth.
This is a lunar eclipse that supports cleansing, purifying and detoxing from unsupportive influences in your life. It’s also a powerful time to call attention to issues surrounding education, clean water, and healthy food.
The lunar eclipse of July 4th is Independence Day in the US, an event that foreshadows something unusual or disruptive about the US elections ahead.
Fortunately, retrograde Jupiter has stepped back into sidereal Sagittarius, where his progressive influence helps education, religion and human rights issues. However, Jupiter’s alignment with transformative Ketu and Pluto in the weeks to come also indicates big shifts in education, politics, and travel.
For those of us who are running dasha cycles of Jupiter, or who have key natal planets in Sagittarius, Jupiter’s influence may be apparent in other ways. Book a one-on-one Vedic Astrology reading with me to find out more.
Take heed, Mercury retrograde is in the jaws of the shadowy eclipse snake, Rahu. Misinformation, misunderstandings, and general discord are likely, so try to slow down and be patient with others. Mercury is retrograde until July 12.
A lunar eclipse is generally not an auspicious time to start new projects, sign legal documents, or making long-term commitments. Eclipses are best spent in meditation, prayer, and other spiritual practices.
In Vedic Astrology, Jupiter is seen as the guru of the gods, and a guiding force of dharma. On this full moon (Guru Purnima) Jupiter and the moon will join in Sagittarius, a powerful omen for spiritual growth. Jupiter will magnify the positive impact of this Guru Purnima, especially if we’re ready to do the work.
Use this full moon to give thanks to those who empower and uplift you in life. Who or what has lit your path? How do you help others find their way?

Giving thanks to all teachers, coaches, mentors, instructors, counselors, friends, or family members.
Guru Brahma,
Guru Vishnu,
Guru devo Maheshwara,
Guru sakshat, param Brahma,
tasmai shri guravay namah.
Guru is the creator, sustainer and the destroyer.
It is the transcendental divinity,
the timeless life-principle, the very essence of the creator.
I make my offering to Guru, the auspicious remover of my darkness and my ignorance;
My salutations of gratitude for that glorious teacher.
