I Don’t Want To Live Anymore. What Should I Do?

You might be feeling down and sad. And when these feelings run very deep and become intense, and you do not know what to do about them, you might think that the only solution is to end your life. But there is hope for you, and you can get through it. What is important for you to know is that there are lots of ways of dealing with these feelings and overcoming them. It is possible to come out on the other side and feel great once again.

Try these initial steps:

Reach out and ask for help.

Share with family, friends, or someone you trust, about how you are feeling. When you open up and talk things through, you will get a fresh perspective on your present situation. Do not bottle things up, otherwise the situation will not improve.

You are never alone.

If it helps, there are others too who are suffering from the effects of depression like you. It is an emotion which can be solved over time, with the right understanding, help and support.

Your present situation will change.

Take solace from knowing that just like the day is always followed by night, the feeling of sadness and loneliness too will not last forever.

Ask for strength from your faith

You could ask for strength from God to help you overcome this difficult period. Do this for 10 to 15 minutes, daily. Close your eyes and recite each letter separately or visualise the face of God when doing so.

Take care of your health

Try to go for a walk or run. Sleep also plays a vital role in your well-being, so try to get a good night’s sleep.

For a permanent solution from suicidal thoughts

This can be achieved by attaining the knowledge of the Self – the Soul. Right now, you are suffering the effects of depression because you believe to be the owner of your name, body and ego. After Self-realization, you will have attained the right understanding of ‘Who am l’.

The Soul is separate from the body, name and ego – this knowledge will be evident through the Self-realization process. Here, you realise who you truly are and who is the one that feels low and depressed. The awakened awareness will remain even during bouts of depression, thoughts of self-harm and feelings of loneliness, helplessness, sadness, worthlessness and frustration.

Param Pujya Dada Bhagwan, the founder of Spiritual Science namely ‘Akram Vignan’ has quoted:

“There is no place or circumstance in this world that can depress You (the Self). Now if you surrender everything right here, the egoism will leave. After this Knowledge of the Self, even you will not have any depression or elevation. Even if someone berates you or throws you in jail, you will not suffer depression, and that is called spiritual science. This is a spiritual path.”

Following the attainment of the knowledge of the Self, the more you apply this science, the greater the experience of the Soul you will have, and you will be able to remain that much detached from the body. Any suicidal ideation you might have about ending your bodily suffering will end. Internally, you will continue to have the awareness that this is not my pain, it belongs to the body. Therefore, you will be able to live a life of bliss.
