Tips For Your Healthiest Skin
Depending on the type of skin you have, it can be incredibly difficult to find the right skincare regimen that keeps your skin looking great without causing problems or irritation. Here are some solutions to make sure your skin is appearing its best.
Although it may not seem like a necessary step, it is imperative to moisturize your face daily, both for hydrated skin and for a level of protection from the sun. Even if you have oily skin, you should moisturize. There are many brands of moisturizer, and you should consult them carefully to find which will be best for your specific type. For example, if you have oily skin, you should look for a moisturizer that is oil free. Additionally, if your skin gets irritated easily, be sure to find a moisturizing cream that is labeled for sensitive skin. Your hydrated skin will thank you.
Opt Out of Tanning Beds
If you love having a summer glow, you may be tempted to visit a tanning salon for a more natural look. However, tanning beds have been shown to be incredibly harmful to your skin, and can even cause skin cancer in some cases. Try using a spray tan, which you can also have professionally done, without the ultraviolet damage of a tanning bed. There are also many rubs and lotions you can use at home that provide the same effect for much less of the cost. You can apply as much or as little as you like to get the shade that you desire, but remember, less is more.
Avoid Hot Showers
Especially in the winter months, it is easy to take showers that are long and steaming hot to stay out of the cold. However, excessively hot showers can cause damage to your skin. For those with skin conditions such as acne, eczema, or psoriasis, these temperatures can irritate and exacerbate these types of issues. For the best results without sacrificing your warmth completely, try lukewarm water. Even if you use lotion or moisturizer for your dry skin following your shower, the dryness caused by hot water can make these substances painful when they are applied to the skin. To prevent further skin irritation, try using less fragranced and perfumed products in the shower, as well.
Always Use Sunscreen
Sunscreen is not just essential for summer. You should be wearing it whenever you are dealing with repeated sun exposure, to protect your face and body from harmful ultraviolet rays. Always use a moisturizer that includes sunscreen in it for daily use, but be sure to use something much stronger if you are going to be outdoors for several hours at a time. Not only does sunscreen reduces the risk of developing dangerous conditions such as skin cancer, but it can also drastically slow down the appearance of aging, including wrinkles and age spots.
Try Lighter Makeup
Although you should wear whatever makeup you like, sometimes wearing too much, or the wrong products can do more harm than good for your skin. If you find yourself having repeated issues with your skin, such as acne, try wearing less makeup and see if it will help your skin to breathe and heal. There are many tricks you can employ when applying makeup, including using a damp sponge for your foundation, or utilizing a combination blusher and bronzer. There are even products that exist which are designed to help soothe skin problems while you are wearing them, which may be the best option if you enjoy applying makeup every day.
Sometimes it can be overwhelming to find products and routines that are best for your skin. Whether your skin is dry, oily, or a combination of both, it does not have to be a challenge to make your skin look the best it can. With these tips, your skin is guaranteed to be beautiful on every level, with or without makeup.
