Healing Isn’t Linear

Healing isn’t linear, we don’t decide one day that we want to be healed and it magically happens. It takes time and it isn’t easy. For a lot of us, we’ve been carrying around baggage or toxic belief systems for years.

When you break your arm, do you immediately go back to doing whatever it was that broke it in the first place? No. You take a rest, you go to the doctor and follow what they say so that your arm will heal. You know that by following the doctor’s orders and being gentle on it that it will heal, given time. Healing ourselves isn’t necessary like that. We can go to a doctor – or go to therapy and pray about it but healing looks different for everyone. There is no magic checklist that we can follow.

We can however, take steps everyday to heal ourselves. For me love has been something that I’ve been working on healing. I was tired of putting myself down constantly when relationships didn’t work out how I wanted them to. On the same token, I was tired of attracting the same men and situations into my life. So day by day I am taking steps to heal myself and my beliefs towards love.

Every morning, as I wake up I say to myself:

“I am worthy of love”

“It is safe for me to be in a loving relationship”

“It is safe for me to love”

“It is safe for me to be loved”

“I deserve to be treated well”

And by doing so every morning and throughout the day, I remind myself that I am worthy and worth it. That I can and will have the relationship of my dreams, it just takes some work and healing on my part.
