Scrape your tongue

The ancient practice of Ayurveda tells us to scrape our tongues on a daily basis. While that might sound odd, there are a host of benefits to this simple practice. Scraping your tongue helps cleanse the body of toxins while also improving your digestion and increasing sense of taste. Tongue scraping should take place first thing in the morning after you have brushed your teeth. The tongue should be gently scraped back to front anywhere from 3 to 7 times.

Drink warm water

The single most important thing you can do for your body throughout the day is to drink warm water. According to Ayurveda, Agni or the digestive fire, is kindled simply by the act of drinking warm water instead of cold or even room temperature water. Drinking warm water helps to fire up our digestive system, move toxins out of the body, and relieve congestion.

Eat more cooked meals

Ayurveda recommends eating steamed and cooked vegetables in order to aid the digestive process especially for the meals that are eaten later in the day. Our digestive fire, or Agni is highest around noon however it starts to decrease as the sun starts to set. Eating raw vegetables can really slow down our digestion as it can take much longer for the food to metabolize.

Spend time in nature

Spending time in nature helps to heal the nervous system which can help calm down our anxieties about things we cannot control. We spend a large part of our days using some form of technology and being disconnected from ourselves. Being in nature allows us to reconnect with our breath and bring us back to the present moment.

Regulate your sleep schedule

Sleep is a very important pillar of Ayurveda. When we learn to balance the times we sleep and wake up, we make room for our bodies to heal, rest and digest. Creating and following a sleep schedule will help you feel rested, rejuvenated, and ready to conquer your day.

Incorporating these simple tips into your daily will not only bring balance into your mind-body but will also leave you feeling energized and ready to take on your goals!
