I’m sure you’ve been there, had a crystal break on you and aren’t sure what to do with the fragments. Or why the crystals broke in the first place.
Before I show you the ways, let’s cover why they break. There’s nothing wrong with them or you for that matter. When a crystal has served its purpose, it will break. When that happens, you’re left with a bunch of tiny pieces that you may not necessarily want to part with. And that’s okay. They’re beautiful and you’ve had an intimate relationship with them. Saying sayonara to a crystal isn’t necessary when you can recycle them for a new purpose.
I save my broken pieces. I’m definitely not going to throw them out. Especially when I can reuse a broken crystal for new purposes. But there’s also a time when you may have to allow bygones to be bygones. Say you’ve done some spell work and the crystal broke. Then, it’s time to part ways. Or someone gifted you a crystal and now the relationship with that person is over and the crystal has broken, say goodbye.
If these two examples happen to be the case, it’s best to bury them in the ground – see the 4th tip. Chances are there are some toxic energies that you don’t want lingering around. Not that you would want to be reminded of those energies anyway. When the crystals break in an organic manner, you’re free to reuse them, as you should. It’s all about reducing and recycling. Crystals are no exception. And that’s why you can and should make new creations with your broken clusters.
Let’s get started, shall we?

1) Make a worry bag
I absolutely love this tip. The inspiration came from me being gifted with Guatemalan worry dolls by my father when I was younger. It’s based on a folklore. You speak your worries to the dolls and place them under your pillow before going to sleep. By the morning, the worry dolls present you with the courage to eradicate your worries.
You don’t have to go buy a set of worry dolls when you can simply make your own worry bag.
To make a worry bag, you will need:
- Muslin bag or any small bag you have
- Pen
- Paper
- Broken crystals
Write down your worries on separate pieces of paper and fold them in small pieces. Put them in the bag along with the broken crystals. Tie it up. Place it under your pillow before you go to sleep. Voila! Your own worry bag to kiss the anxiety away.
2) Spell jar
There’s no need to buy new crystals for a spell when you can just reuse the fragments you already have laying around. It’s best to conduct a removal of some sort because the broken crystals signifies the end of an era and energies that aren’t up to par with this upgraded version of yourself.
What you need:
- A glass jar or vial
- Broken crystals
- Flowers and or herbs
- Salt
You can carry the jar around with you or display it somewhere in your home where the energies need to be absorbed. That’s all there is to it and it’s such a great way to reuse your broken crystals.
3) Make a candle
This is such an awesome memento to have of your broken crystals. Candles are a super easy and quick DIY project. Let your imagination run wild with this. Explore your creativity with this tip. You can dress the candles in any way you see fit and even use the candle for an energy removal spell. If you want fragrance in your candle, add your favorite essential oils when the wax has cooled a little bit. This way, the scent will be stronger.
4) Bury the crystals
Don’t just throw them under the ground. Create a ritual out of this method.
Release everything that was associated with the purpose of the crystals – pain, grief, guilt, sorrow. Write down the emotions along with the situations you want to purge yourself of on a piece of paper. Dig a small hole in the ground and place the crystals in the hole. Then light the paper on fire allowing the ashes to scatter over the crystals. Cover the crystals and ashes with dirt. Give thanks to the Universe and Mother Earth for hearing your concerns, knowing that you’re being absolved. Your burial ceremony is complete.
This is really a two for one deal. You get to give back to Mother Earth while conducting an energy removal spell.
5) Keep them in your journal or Book of Shadows
If you’re a sentimentalist, this is perfect for you. A broken crystal can be reused without creating any spells or doing any DIY projects with this super simple tip. Put them in a small envelope or plastic baggie. All you have to do is tape them in your journal as a keepsake.
There you have it. Five ways to reuse your broken crystals. These are super simple ways to repurpose what’s already in your home. Have you tried any of these ways to reuse your crystals? Let me know in the comments below.
