It’s actually the other way round – A person is liberated when the ego is gone!
Param Pujya Dada Bhagwan, the Enlightened being, explains:
“You are a pure Soul and yet you claim that you are John (please insert your name here). Claiming to be something you are not is called ‘ego’. This is the false imposition of the ego. Egoism is to usurp someone else’s space and call it your own. When this ego leaves, you can return to your own place where there is no bondage.”
The moment one becomes aware of, ‘I am bound’, he desires to become free (attain liberation).
The bondage is that of karma.
“The Soul is already free; it is independent. Ego that’s created through the false impositions binds karma, and this ego only experiences the fruits of karma”, says Param Pujya Dadashri, “When one takes under his control the mind, speech and body, which are really under the control of vyavasthit (energy that keeps everything in order), that is called egoism.”
If we believe ourselves to be the pure Soul, then there is no ego. There is ego in believing, ‘I am John.’ And since we do not know, really who am I, that’s why we believe, “I am thinking. I am speaking, I am doing (drinking tea, etc.).” That wrong belief of, ‘I am the doer’ is the subtlest egoism.
“Whenever you become the doer, you bind karma. But once you are freed from that doership, you stop binding new karma. When I release you from the doership, you will stop binding new karmas and only the effects (results) of the old karmas remain. These you will have to experience. No new causes will occur; only the effects will remain. And when all the effects have been completely experienced, you will attain final liberation.”
Pure Soul is the right and permanent answer of ‘who am I’
‘I am John’ is relatively correct. But the really correct phrase is, ‘I am permanently a Pure Soul.’ However, until there is ego, ‘who really am I’ cannot be Known!
When Gnani gives us the experiential knowledge of really, ‘who am I’, the dissociation between the ego and the pure Soul happens with the knowledge that, ‘This is ego, this is not me. I am that, I am a Pure Soul.’ This is called Self-Realization!!
Param Pujya Dada Bhagwan attained Self-Realization in 1958.
Since many past lives, Param Pujya Dadashri wanted to know, ‘who am I, who governs this Universe, where is God, what is God doing, what is the right address of God, how has the bondage of karma happened, how to come out of the bondage of karma and how to get ultimate salvation???’
He was searching for it, and in 1958, he automatically got the realization. He experienced the Universal truth. The deluding coverings over his Soul broke away and the God within him manifested. He called this God ‘Dada Bhagwan’. His ego melted completely and he was detached from Ambalal’s (Dadashri’s name) thoughts, words and actions (mind, speech and body).
Also, a step-less path to Self-realization, called ‘Akram Vignan’ emerged, as a result of which, today all of us can attain Self-Realization, in just two hours, with the direct grace of the Living Gnani.
Therefore, Gnani’s feet are the only solvent to dissolve egoism!
In order to make the egoism non-existent, Gnani, the Enlightened One, establishes the awareness of the Pure Soul within. He, with his divine spiritual powers, fractures our wrong belief, and instils into our understanding, the right vision of the Self. With this, we realize ‘who am I’ (attain Self-Realization).
That’s fairly easy, isn’t it?!!
So come, let’s go to this Akram Gnani, and very humbly, surrender all our ego in His lotus feet; then with His grace, effortlessly attain Self-Realization in only two hours; and thereafter, following His words, get established in the awareness of our real Self, the Soul, and be liberated forever!

In June 1958, spontaneous Self-Realization occurred within Ambalal M. Patel. From this point on, Ambalal became a Gnani Purush, and…
