Complete Fitness: How To Make The Most Of Your Yoga Routine

Yoga is a fantastic all-body workout to help you reach your fitness goals. However, if you’re looking to make the most of your yoga you’ll want to make sure you’re providing your body with all the nutrients you need to feel healthy and live a longer life. Check out these 5 things you can add daily to maximize your health:

Cardio

Yoga will help you to create long lean muscles with high flexibility. In addition to the stretching and toning that yoga can provide, it’s a good idea to add a daily dose of cardio. Cardio exercise will help you to gain heart health and boost your metabolism. Cardio exercise can be rigorous, such as going for a run or doing laps in a pool. However, if you’re looking for something with a lower impact to help get you into a routine, you can try to go for a walk each evening. Regardless of what level of cardio you are doing, getting your blood flowing will have a high impact on your overall health. There are many gadgets out there to help you track how much cardio you are doing each day, such as the FitBit which will automatically track your steps and log the numbers in an app on your phone.

Healthy Diet

There are many different ideas on what a healthy diet looks like. The big goal here, however, is to add nutritional foods to your diet and reduce the calorie density of the foods you eat. This will help you to feel satiated longer and make it less likely for you to overeat. Some high nutrient, low-calorie density foods that you might want to add to your diet include leafy greens, bell peppers, broccoli, cauliflower, berries and oranges. If you’re looking to add some healthy foods to your diet that feel like treats you can try adding avocado, lean meats and naturally lower-fat cheeses such as cottage cheese and mozzarella. If you are eating bread it is a good idea to lean into eating whole grains rather than overly processed white bread.

Supplements

Even the healthiest person can use different dietary supplements to help boost energy levels and reduce the symptoms of things like leaky gut. Look for supplements that provide any of the nutrients that you have trouble building into your diet naturally along with natural probiotics to support a healthy digestive system. One example of a well-rounded supplement is Bio Complete 3 by Gundry MD which provides prebiotics, probiotics and post biotics. As you flush out your digestive system you should also see results such as improved concentration and lower levels of exhaustion.

Meditation

While some types of yoga will help you to learn methods of meditation, it can be a good idea to take some time each day to disconnect from the world by meditating. Meditation can help you to learn to destress and focus more easily on other activities. Meditation can be used for many different types of well-being including but not limited to meditation in the morning to help you focus your brain for what you need to get done that day, meditation before bed to help you wind down and get a more restful night’s sleep and mediation after a rigorous workout to help you re-center before you move onto your next activity.

Hydration

A frequently overlooked aspect of full-body health is hydration. Drinking water is an incredibly important part of keeping your body functioning at its best. The amount of water you should be drinking depends on your activity level and body size, however, it is generally suggested that healthy adults drink at least 8 glasses of water a day. An added benefit of drinking a lot of water is that it can help to curb your appetite. This will make you less likely to overeat and won’t add any additional calories to your diet. If you don’t like plain water, you can try adding citrus to your water or drinking carbonated water.
