What Is Astral Projection?…

What Is Astral Projection?

Astral Projection

According to ancient texts, humans have 3 bodies: physical, astral, and causal.

All 3 of these bodies cover the soul, the ultimate Self that all religious texts talk about.

In eastern teachings, all 3 bodies must be transcended in order to become enlightened.

However, each of the these bodies has their own “plane” that sets them apart from others.

That is to say, all 3 are very different from each other.

What’s the Difference?

In the physical world, everything is “gross”; not in the sense that it’s repulsive, but in the sense that everything is large scale and lacking the detail and subtlety that the other planes of existence have.

In the astral world, thoughts can (pretty much) become reality. Travelling large distances or seeing new places becomes just a matter of how much you’d like to experience it.

In the causal, things get really wild! Reality is no longer molded for you, you mold reality. The line between spirit (enlightenment) and causal is very thin. This plane of existence is very hard to get to, as it requires significant spiritual development.

The guru Paramahansa Yogananda has said that the astral cosmos is hundreds of times larger than the physical, and the causal hundreds of times larger than the astral.

Just to give you an idea of that size, there are roughly 100 billion stars in each galaxy, and roughly 100 billion galaxies in our universe.

In other words, the astral and causal planes are massive!

Out of Body Experiences

Because of this belief that we have 3 different bodies, the eastern spiritual masters began to experiment with the idea that each one could be experienced separately.

That is, they believed they could leave the physical body if they trained themselves.

By meditating deeply, or by going into altered states of sleep (there are many different methods), they can consciously begin to let go of earthly tethers and step out of their bodies.

This allows the practitioner to experience a form of reality that is very different than what they’re used to.

So what’s the experience like?

Well for starters, no two experiences are the same.

Many people simply “project”…that is, they’re in their astral body, floating around the world, going wherever they please (the government actually had programs that trained people to do this so they could spy on other countries).

Some people fully leave the earthly plane, and travel to the astral. There they experience the subtlety and richness of a world made of pure light.

At the end of this experience, the practitioner comes back to his or her body.

Sometimes the experience is long, sometimes short; it all depends on the person.

Conclusion

Astral projection has been done for almost as long as humans had the ability to talk!

Nearly every culture throughout history has at least experimented with it in some way or another, because it’s a powerful way to acknowledge the fact that we are not just a physical being- we are spiritual.
