Ask Erik August Edition…

Ask Erik August Edition

Ask Erik is a spiritual advice column from the eternally twenty-year-old spirit guide, Erik Medhus. Through gifted medium/spirit translator, Kim Babcock, he directly answers readers’ questions on death, the afterlife, spirituality, the human experience, and more with the insight and wisdom he’s gained since his passing.

What best advice would Erik give, as a practical starting point, for someone to channel or ask advice from their spirit guide(s)?

Thank you so much,

Kathleen E.

Hey Kathleen!

Well, if you’re just starting out and developing psychic awareness, I have a lot of advice to give. First though, it really depends on where you want to take it. It’s up to you, and your intentions will determine your experiences. Everyone has psychic abilities, but not everyone is meant to make a living out of using them.

The key to all of it, though, is just presence. It’s easy. The more present you are in the Now, the more likely you are to experience intuitive awareness.

So, practice listening to your thoughts. Sometimes, they’ll be in your own voice, but that doesn’t mean they’re coming from you. Channeling information seems to “come out of nowhere.” They don’t feel like the thoughts you produce.

Develop a deeper awareness of being intentionally mindful. Not everything will come to you at once, and it will take some getting used to the deconditioning phases of the enlightened state. Once you’re there and you accept the subtleties of this state, psychic abilities then are accessible. It’s the heart, the inner voice.

Listen to it all the time, honor it, and give it life. This is the true state of higher awareness.

Hi Elisa,

Can you please ask Erik if he sees me working in the field of spirituality? Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

Ivy G.

Hey Ivy!

Well, of course the decision is ultimately up to you. Yes, you’ll dive deep into spiritual work and energy attunements. Energy attunements with sound will become a focal point for you.

You’ll undergo some studying, testing and experimenting though, before you become completely confident in your own ability to understand what you’re doing with energy. You’ll basically learn how to move it and sound waves with instruments like singing bowls and tuning forks.

Be mindful that your work doesn’t become sensationalized or that you’re not drawn to it through sensationalism. It happens all too often, and people wind up in it for the wrong reasons.

Thanks, and hello from Finland! I am very interested in everything spiritual and I would like to do something meaningful for a living. Will I ever work with spirit guides, and if not what is my purpose in this lifetime?

I am so grateful for your answer. Thank you Erik.

Anu from Finland.

Hey Anu!

Well, first, everyone is always working with spirit guides consciously, and subconsciously. But to work with them as a life mission is another meaning. Will you work with them in this lifetime for work?

The answer to that question is up to you! That’s the beauty of free will! You get to decide. The fact that you’re drawn to it should be a huge hint to you, but if I simply answered your question and told you what to do, what good is that doing for you?

There’s no growth for you if I just tell you what to do. You have to decide, then take action. Let your heart lead you. It knows your truth and will resonate strongly with where you belong in this life.

I will say this, though: You do have the ability to make it your life’s work.

Question: Is this my life contract with my husband?

Jackeline M

Jackeline, if there’s one thing I can stress in this message to you and everyone reading this, don’t get too hung up on the “contract” idea. You can often replace that word with mission. When people think “contract,” they feel stuck.

Anyway, in any case, everything that’s happening in any corner of the world at any and every given moment is meant to be happening. If it wasn’t, it wouldn’t happen. If things were supposed to be different, they would be. That doesn’t mean that they can’t be different, or can’t change. That’s where free will comes in.

So, looking at the bigger picture here, trust that everything happening is meant to happen. Is this your mission with your husband? Yeah, that’s why you’re here experiencing this marriage because it’s a part of your plan. All things you’ve experienced in the past were a part of your plan, too. It can never not be.

Ultimately, you are energy creating and attracting every experience you are consciously aware of. Trust the process, trust your ability to create and manifest and use intentions to generate evolution.

Erik, I want to know if I was unknowingly transported to the other side of the veil nineteen years ago, when my mother was in the emergency room being treated by doctors after suffering a heart attack. I was full of fear and anxiety in the waiting room when I suddenly felt as if I was in a vacuum. I was overcome by a strange sensation. There was no sound, and then I felt this indescribable sense of peace, pure joy and unconditional love. It felt as if the weight of the world had been lifted from my shoulders.

When I became aware of my surroundings again, I felt no fear or anxiety, only peace. I have never experienced these emotions as intensely as I did that day. The doctor came out and told us that my mother had coded 15 minutes earlier, which is about the time I was having my experience, and they were unable to revive her. I would love an explanation.

Grace C.

Grace, your mother imbued you with those feelings because she wanted you to know that she was all right, feeling all of that joy, peace and unconditional love as well.

When I visited my father shortly after my death, I asked him to lean in one direction into my energy field so he could feel what I felt like in life. He felt my sense of dread and misery. Then, I asked him to lean in the other direction so he could feel what I felt like after my transition and he felt pure euphoria. Your mom did the same thing for you.

My name is Nancy S. I also have a 28-year-old son named Erik. My question is:  Will I meet my true soul mate in this lifetime? If so when?

Nancy S.

Nancy, perhaps this is the perfect place to share new information with you and everyone reading this about soulmates. Truthfully, the age-old idea that soulmates are a “one and only” needs to be revisited.

You see, the truth for everyone is that anyone and everyone is or can be a soulmate. It doesn’t depend on them and who they are. It depends on you and your ability to be vulnerable and intimate at the soul level. It depends on your capacity to love beyond likeness and fully accept someone.

The idea that there is only one soulmate for you in this world is absurd! Anyone can be your soulmate so long as you choose to allow intimate soul sharing with another and they with you. You have to be willing to let them in and be willing to love without limits. It’s all up to you to truly accept that reality and allow that intimate soul sharing. That will also determine the “when” part. It is you, and only you, that can make that determination and change that part of your life.

So, instead of wondering if you will meet that soul mate, decide that you will and be diligent in your intentions to open up and share.

Thank you for being so diligent in running your blog, Elisa. Had you and Erik not run the blog, I couldn’t predict where I’d be at this point. Erik, I’m struggling with mental illness and suicidal ideation. I’m exhausting my efforts to find something to get me feeling right again. Regression therapy, CBT, marijuana, meditation, orgonite, etc. you name it. I don’t want to leave this plane to feel happy if I don’t have to. What guidance do you have for me?.

Thank you!

Savannah H.

Savannah, thank you for opening your heart to me and trusting me. I know how hard it is to feel this way from my own personal experience.

First, I want you to try to take an objective look at all of the things you tried to alleviate your pain. All of these things are only facilitators. They may facilitate your path to happiness, but they, themselves, aren’t happiness. So in the end, all of the facilitators eventually fall short.

Happiness is an awareness. A lack of it is a lack of awareness of it. Consciousness is presence, and presence is awareness. You must unplug from the things that you feel are clouding that awareness of your presence in happiness like certain situations.

Truthfully, people in your life are always going to have their opinions, but does that actually justify your being? Of course not! Let their opinions come, and let them go. You don’t have to engage nor do you have to employ what’s right for others just because you feel as though you haven’t found what right for you.

If you don’t know what to do, then you’ve found your answer: Don’t do at all. Instead, focus on just being. What you resist will envelop you. Depression is the result of resistance to reality. Accept reality, accept what is, all that is, and you’ll relieve yourself from carrying the weight of the world on you shoulders.

Be sure you are under the care of a good mental healthcare provider and possibly even a life coach. I think James Olivencia is an amazing one. He’s helping my little brother a lot. Try to contact him.

Hi Elisa and Erik!

My question is, sometimes I see sparkles or orbs and sometimes I feel the presence of energies around me. Do I have psychic abilities?

Love you guys so much!

Ismini  M.

Hey Ismini! Well, let the secret out: Everyone has psychic abilities. Yep, absolutely everyone. But not everyone has the capacity to develop expanded awareness through them. Seeing lights, sparkles, orbs and flashes are all an experience of expanded awareness through objective clairvoyance, actually being able to see energy. It’s possible. It just takes a different kind of presence.

As you develop expanded awareness, acknowledge the orbs, give gratitude for their presence and don’t hesitate to engage and ask questions. But ask through the heart, through sentient communication, not through the head.

Please comment on my current health and bulimia.

Thanks from a big fan,

Lucy D.

Lucy, for a long time now, and even in past lives, you’ve dealt with neglect, both self-love neglect and neglect from loved ones. If we justify our value through others and they neglect us, then our value becomes that neglect and we turn on ourselves.

Self-love neglect manifests in so many ways, bulimia being one of them. It is a control mechanism of the ego that is fear based. The ego fears losing power, so control through actions such as bulimia falsely fulfill the egoic self.

This is a pattern that you are ready to break like an old habit. It actually stems from a past life when your spouse neglected you, and the only thing you knew to do was the same. It doesn’t mean you were bulimic in a past life, but self-love was neglected. In this life, it has carried over and has manifested physically as this behavioral pattern of bulimia.

Always remember that your being will exist forever. You’re immortal whether others know that or not, and that should have no bearing on your ability to love and respect yourself. Let the fear die with the behavior.

Your being is already justified through God. It’s time to show up for yourself in as many ways as you can and restore your self-love. No more hiding, no more neglect.

Hi, my name is Crystal, and I am a stay-at-home mom of a three year-old; I have been having a hard time as of late and feel lost and completely alone. I have tried to make friends and my husband is a great support, but I need insight on my life and the point of it all.

Thank you,

Crystal M.

Hey Crystal.

First of all, even though you feel alone, you have to objectively remember that that is an idea that you’ve accepted as a part of your reality. It’s an idea, a thought really, that you’ve identified with.

After we identify with a thought like this, we fixate on it; we make room for it. When we do this, it becomes a bigger part of our awareness and then it seems like we’re enveloped by that feeling, thought or emotion.

It’s all an illusion. It’s an identity that you have to work to separate from or just let go of, really. In order to do that, you have to look at all of the areas in your life that you’ve attached that “lonely” identity to.

You identify yourself almost exclusively as a mom, and that can be really isolating. There may not be other stay-at-home moms like you, and others in your life may not even have kids, but it’s worth exploring the Internet for stay-at-home mom groups in your area.

The idea is to really get outside of your box in order to “revamp” your life. You need to engage more in things that stimulate and excite you. Adult conversations and spending time as an adult, not as a mom, will help you to regain your inner strength. You need to explore many other facets of yourself.

Make time for you to explore your creative side, and this will help. Right now, you’re only seeing one side of yourself when there are infinite possibilities to that you that you are.

Hi Elisa,

Here is my one question for the Ask Eric Column. I have been told by mediums in the past that I am very creative. What should I be doing to earn a living using this talent that will really fullfil me?

Many thanks,

Morley S.

Hey Morely!

Creativity is probably the key to life for most people. Creativity embodies curiosity mixed with a dash of imagination expressed through change. It is the soul’s urge to express itself.

Think about it, if we don’t have the freedom to be creative or leverage to be creative, we’re unhappy. Creativity fosters life; it allows change and growth through exploration. It’s up to you to decide what avenues you like to express that through. Only you can determine what it is that fulfills you.

Making jewelry is something you’ll spend time doing, but only a small dynamic. You’ll get into personalizing items with photographs like jewelry, trinkets and more, and yes, you’re very creative.
