3 Ways to Balance Your Throat Chakra

When we feel out of balance in our lives, every part of our inner being becomes unbalanced.

In this series, we will be focusing on each of the Seven Chakras to heal, balance, and receive positive energy for genuine well being and vitality.

Our focus in this article is the Throat Chakra – your energy center of communication.

Our Fifth Chakra allows us to express ourselves freely and creatively, to speak the truth, and hear and be heard.

When our Vishuddha is imbalanced, we experience strong feelings of guilt, have trouble expressing ourselves honestly, act verbally abusive towards others, and feel unable to express ourselves clearly – every conversation is full of mixed messages. 

Our physical bodies also suffer – thyroid issues, sore throats, ear aches, sinus infections, neck issues, stress, and jaw problems are also associated with an imbalanced Throat Chakra.

Tip #1: Bring on the Blue Skies

The color Blue is associated with the Throat Chakra.

Surrounding yourself in a blue environment – such as being outside, looking up at the blue sky – can bring the Fifth Chakra towards a healing state.

Even if it’s dark and cold outside, you can light blue candles, paint yourself a blue room, or even color a picture all in blue hues.

Choose Vishuddha healing foods during meal and snack times.

Many great options include juices, soups, and sauces which are soothing for the Fifth Chakra.

Be sure to add blue/purple foods to your diet as well – blueberries, black currants, blackberries, dried plums, eggplant, elderberries, grapes, plums, prunes, figs, purple asparagus, and grape juice.




Tip #2: Vishuddha-Healing Actions

Communication is the center subject of the Fifth Chakra, which needs to be exercised often to allow for healing and good health.

Listen to a good friend and really understand what they’re communicating to you.

Allow yourself time to express yourself to another close friend.

Encourage each other to communicate and you both will provide good healing to your Throat Chakras.

Speak up about something that bothers you.

Speak the truth!


Take 5-10 minutes to set aside for healing mantras, such as “I am able to speak honestly and clearly,” “I am heard,” and “I can express myself and create freely.”

Go outside in a private area where you can vocalize as loud or as soft as you want.

Hum, chant, or yell it out! Remove all negativities that hold you back from expressing your true self.

Yoga will also help with realigning the Throat Chakra, especially breathing techniques in asanas.

The yoga facial exercise called “the lion” is a great example.

When we regularly express our needs or allow ourselves to say something we truly want to say, our Throat Chakra stays balanced and healthy.

When we listen well and when we are heard well, we thrive.

Make your purpose clear each day, inhale deep, meaningful breathes, and open yourself for creativity and honest expression.
