Venus Retrograde comes only once every two years. We will dive into the deep relationship re-assessing waters of Venus Retro starting tomorrow, Saturday the 4th. While Venus is the planet of love, attraction, beauty, diplomacy and harmony, we will find ourselves re-assessing more than just our significant other. Business relationships will also be reconsidered. If you work closely with someone else or own a business together you may discover some new flaws in the flow of give and take between you now. People from earlier eras in our lives also surface now such as relatives we haven’t spent time with since childhood or even a teenage or college flame. Some new acquaintances made in March and April this year seem unusually familiar to us. Could we have known each other in a past life? The other side to Venus Retro is that we judge ourselves more harshly now too. Don’t fall prey to head games. There are things about all of us that can use some improvement but don’t take your own flaws too much to heart. Thank goodness Venus returns to direct movement on April 14th. Maybe we’ll be guilted into sending our U.S. tax returns early! Enjoy this early spring! Kari
The Heavens and Your Health
By Kari Noren-Hoshal
We have to close one door before we open another. The month of March always takes us to that point of ending before the exciting first spark of spring. The Pisces birth month is the most poignant and reflective of the entire year. The Solar Eclipse of February 26th was an extremely significant end point for a number of reasons. The eclipse was a New Moon conjunction of the Sun and Moon in the same degree of Pisces. It was also an exact conjunction of the Moon and Neptune in the same degree of Pisces. Neptune is the planet that rules the sign of Pisces and the energy of the Fish, swimming between the poles of Spirit and Ego. During the last two weeks of February and the first two weeks of March we have to let ourselves die to the old ways of last year in order to be reborn to the energy of the new one. During this period we have to let go of some ideas, people and ways of life. The arrest of Native elders at Standing Rock, North Dakota on Thursday, February 23rd appeared to be an end point of the protest against the oil company pipeline that is slated to run underneath the Missouri River. It is not the end however.
At the eclipse on February 26th we also had an exact Mars/Uranus square (or challenge.) Mars and Aries the Ram represent the energy of protest and activism, of defending true allies and of tribal interdependence upon human, animal and natural resources. One of the major realizations of the protest at Standing Rock and of the protests against the Trump administration nationwide is that Americans and sympathizers from around the world ARE willing to stand up for what they believe. That Americans aren’t just going to take large corporate control of our natural resources, our educational system and our diplomacy overseas laying down. The final energetic component of the Solar Eclipse on February 26th that made it so significant was that conjunction of Mars and Uranus in the sign of Aries on that day. Mars and Uranus are the energies of revolution and scientific discovery. It was no major surprise to astrologers that a dwarf star with 7 habitable planets 40 light years away was discovered the week of February 19th to the 25th under the influence of a Mars/Uranus conjunction in Aries! Uranus will continue to be in the sign of Aries until March of 2019. It will receive one more exact conjunction from Mars in Aries on February 13th 2019.
Noted Mayan astrologer Jose Federico Munoz has called the period between 2012 and 2032 “The 20 Years of Instability” as we begin the period of the Sixth Mayan Sun as of December 21st, 2012. Since we are now 5 years into the twenty-year instability period, we are experiencing a period in 2017 which is similar to the lunar First Quarter Square. The First Quarter Square is the square (or challenge) of crisis. This is when we initially evaluate the consequences of our actions begun at the New Moon (which correlates to December 2012.) There are likely to be major protests throughout 2017, 2018 and the first half of 2019. Times when the energy will be highest are when Mars will be in a fire sign or when Mars will be in the cardinal signs of Capricorn, Cancer and Libra, which square (or challenge) Uranus in Aries. Protest organizers are likely to intuitively clue-in to these periods. Hopefully, more protests will be organized for Wednesday, March 8th, International Women’s Day, when the Moon in the feminine sign of Cancer will make a potent square to the male-dominant Mars in Aries at 9:59 a.m. EST. This is a great day to rally support for women’s causes and for the protection of our Mother Earth in vulnerable locations such as Standing Rock and throughout the world.
The other big celestial news this month is the biannual passage of Venus through a retrograde beginning Saturday, March 4that 4:08 a.m. EST. Every two years Venus, the planet of love, attraction, monetary and personal values slows down in relation to the movement of the Earth. During a Venus retrograde we have a major opportunity to re-evaluate our romantic and financial relationships and status. Lovers from earlier in our lives may resurface and already established couples as well as new ones can consciously spend time reflecting upon the nature of their relationship and where it should go next. Some partnerships will be strengthened through this period and others will dissolve. Venus asks us to examine the value and usefulness of relationships in our lives and how we also consider our own value as a person outside of our relationships. Do we feel good about ourselves and the work that we are doing this year? Do we feel that our partner is meeting our needs and giving back in addition to taking energy from us? We will have five weeks in which to ponder these questions between Saturday, March 4th and Saturday, April 15th when Venus returns to direct movement. The stock market is prone to take a dip during this period as well. If you are trying to buy or sell a house during this period, expect the status of your transaction to be sluggish or on hold until after April 15th. In fact, many financial transactions and other significant actions such as job interviews will not truly pick up steam until May 17th when Venus returns to 13 degrees Aries (the degree where it went retrograde on March 4th.) Consumer confidence and employer confidence will resume stability as of around mid-May despite the fact that Jupiter (planet of expansion and forward vision) will remain in retrograde until July 9th. If you are seeking new employment, interviews are best timed for after April 15th and results should be available as of May 17th. If you have not secured the job you want during this period, continue to interview through the summer with better results arriving after July 9th. Jupiter goes direct that day and we will have the influence of both Jupiter and Venus in direct motion on our side.
Venus will be conjunct the Sun on March 25th at 5 degrees on Saturday, March 25th. This conjunction, known as an Aries Venus Star Point, occurs on the “inferior side” where Venus is between the Earth and the Sun. Thus it is called an inferior conjunction. Issues relating to our personal net worth and our ability to earn a living come front and center now. The inferior conjunction is followed by a period when Venus rises in the morning from our view on Earth. As a “Morning Star,” Aries Venus is a fierce protectress of her possessions and relationships. The period between March 25th and the formation of the next Venus Star Point (in Capricorn on December 19th) is a perfect time for entrepreneurs to hang their shingle and put their goods on the market. If you have been considering when to start your own business or to take a product to market, this is it. We will all feel naturally more self-centered during this time between March 25th and December 19th. Make hay while the Sun shines folks! This is the time to use the power of Venus to attract self-value through new business, romantic relationships, political, ecological and human rights allies. Venus as an Aries Morning Star is a fierce Amazon fighting to protect her land and personal property. Align yourself with her energy— and prosper!
Political, business and human rights standoffs may go into a second stage as of Thursday, March 9th when Mars moves into the manifestation-oriented fixed sign of Taurus. Between this date and April 20th when it phases into Gemini, Mars will motivate us to manifest the resources we need to move forward in our lives. This would be a time to take a loan or to call for donations for both personal and business projects. Be ready to explain clearly what you are working to accomplish. This and a good business plan will give your investors greater confidence.
Here comes the Sun! Daylight Savings Time begins at 2 a.m. on Sunday, March 12th. This is the day when we “Spring forward” an hour to make the hours of daylight longer. This is also the day of the Full Moon at 23 degrees Virgo at 10:44 a.m. EDT. On this day, the Virgo Moon squares Saturn in Sagittarius in a challenge of practical personal accountability versus societal vision for the future. The Moon is causing us to want to do our duty to family and loved ones. Saturn is asking us to look beyond our own personal needs toward a solution for society. This weekend is likely to be quite melancholy under this building aspect. Depressive thoughts abound about what we want to do versus what we feel obliged to do. It is important to realize that this is a passing aspect and that after 10:44 Eastern time this morning the skies will start to brighten. We have followed through on a duty. We are now free to realign with our vision. The Sabian Symbol for 23 degrees Virgo is An Animal Trainer. This is a symbol of the organic integrity of the world at large, evident in Man’s gift for using all interweaving relationships to increase his own potential and the self-discipline he must have to develop it. The keyword is Resoluteness. When positive, the degree is illimitable patience toward developing personal accomplishment. On this day the Sun, Chiron and Mercury in Pisces also square Saturn. Many Americans are feeling depressed by the imposition of conservative dictates on personal liberty and human rights as a result of the new American presidential administration. Health insurance is a Moon in Virgo issue that is likely to come to a head now. On a personal level, depressive thoughts caused by feeling manipulated by authority figures can run rampant. It is important (as indicated by the Sabian Symbol for this Full Moon) to always preserve a safe space for the ideas and activities that emotionally sustain us. Don’t allow the negativity of others to dominate your thoughts today. Give yourself the gift of time to daydream, read and research things that inspire you this afternoon.
Mercury races into the sign of Aries at 5:08 a.m. EDT on Monday the 13th. It will stay in ardent Aries for only 18 days before it phases into Taurus on the 31st of March. Use the “me first” quality of Mercury in Aries to assert yourself when you need to this month. Debates and town hall meetings will reach a real frenzy in the last two weeks of March. The Republican Party’s vision of national healthcare will meet serious resistance. Massive protests are expected. Avoid saying things you can’t take back during this period. Avoid setting meetings if you have doubts that both parties can talk constructively. Road rage is a reality on the roads during a Mercury in Aries period. We have all seen video clips of how this has escalated in the past year. Don’t drive angry. Allow someone else to take the wheel and set out early for your destination. This is serious folks.
Saint Patrick’s Day falls on a Friday this year. This favorite unofficial American holiday gets started under a Scorpio Moon on March 17th. The celebration shows no signs of slowing down once the Moon goes into Sagittarius at 11 p.m. EDT. The party then spills over into Saturday. Pub crawls are likely to last through Saturday night under a series of Mercury, Moon and Venus conjunctions and trines through 7:06 p.m. EDT on Saturday the 18th. There is a natural desire to be social with friends today. There is an infectious “feel good” aspect that gets started around 6 p.m. EDT Friday and lasts through 7 p.m. EDT Saturday. Designate a driver, reserve an Uber or walk home. Most of all—-Enjoy! It isn’t often the Universe conspires to entertain us like this. A more serious fundamentalist religious and/or political tone will take hold Saturday afternoon into the evening. There are likely to be some major bar room brawls and demonstrations unleashed tonight under the influence of the Moon square Neptune as of 7p.m. EDT Saturday. Avoid mass transit and large crowds this evening. Call it an early night.
Happy Birthday Aries! The Sun races into your sign bright and early on Monday, March 20th at 6:29 a.m. EDT. The Moon in Sagittarius will conjunct Saturn at 6:37 a.m. EDT on this day. This combination of planets amps up the celebration for this first day of the astrological year. This Sagittarius energy helps us look toward the future with greater optimism. The Pisces Sun period and all of its meditative, internalized energy is now over. A bright new kernel of hope for the future springs up today. In the big monopoly game of life, it is time to pass GO. Aries Sun sign folks will continue to experience a wealth of new opportunities this year through October 11th with Jupiter in Libra opposing their Sun sign. Much of the change this year feels pretty overwhelming. You will start to figure out how to integrate these new opportunities in November and December. For now just go for it! Life is change and your horizons have really been expanded beyond their old boundaries this year. Expect to see some positive financial results of projects you begin this year under Jupiter in Scorpio in 2018. Saturn will change signs from Sadge to Capricorn December 19th of this year. Saturn in Capricorn will square (or challenge) your Sun for two years causing limitations to your physical energy if you are not taking care of yourself. Use the abundant and upbeat personal energy of March through November to set an exercise and diet routine in place. If you maintain good habits, they will carry you through the Saturn square.
The New Moon at 8 degrees Aries rises at 10:57 p.m. EDT on Monday, March 27th. This New Moon conjuncts Venus at 4 degrees Aries and makes an inconjunct (150-degree adjustment aspect) to the North Node at 4 degrees Virgo. On the world stage this week we can expect clashes in the Middle East as the “Arab spring” season for conflict gets underway in the warmer weather. The conjunction of the New Moon with Mercury means that there will be a lot of confrontation verbalized between the 25th and the 28th of March in particular. Meanwhile, the North Node in Virgo asks us to follow the dictates of careful analysis of situations that appear to be getting out of control. A cool head is required for personal issues this week too. The inspiration of a New Moon in Aries can make us want to broadcast our opinions and ideas to the planet. Whatever our new passion is, we will be tempted to advertise it to anyone that will listen. The temperance of Virgo needs to be heeded. This will help us to avoid fooling ourselves into believing that whatever is happening now is better or worse than it actually is. The Sabian Symbol for 8 degrees Aries is A Large Hat with Streamers Flying, Facing East. This is a symbol of naïve creativity. There is an unconditioned cooperation with every trend of events. The keyword is Excitation. When positive, the degree is continual recognition of the potential of all experiences. Beware of being vulnerable to manipulation during this period. We may be so starved for exciting new experiences that we get fooled by something that promises more than it can actually deliver.
Thankfully, Mercury tones-down its Aries megaphone blasts on Friday the 31st once it slips into the more measured sign of Taurus at 1:31 p.m. EDT. Mercury in Taurus can be stubborn and strong-willed but at least the volume and intensity of our communications should be quieted a bit in April. Mercury will go retrograde in Taurus between April 9th and Mary 3rd. That will give us time to take a break from the high-pitched sound of people shouting over each other.

PISCES: February 18th to March 20th:
Happy Birthday Pisces! Believe it or not the future is brighter at the end of this solar year (in March 2018.) You have just been the recipient of a huge blast of Solar Eclipse energy in Pisces in late January and this month you have to contend with the Full Moon in Virgo (opposing your Sun.) Saturn continues its progress through the sign of Sagittarius this year completing the challenging square that began in September 2015. The good news is that as of December 21st Saturn will move into Capricorn and lighten your load of chaotic and traumatic events. The intensity of the events you have had to shoulder over this past year and a half has been compounded by Neptune (your ruling planet) in Pisces. The most difficult period was May to November of 2016 when Saturn and Neptune were in a tight square (or challenge.) Saturn is now beyond the scope of the square thank goodness! The coming year will bring a productive aspect between Saturn in Capricorn and your Sun. You will finally feel as though you can make progress on some long-held goals and the pace of life will be smoother.
Another piece of good news is the arrival of Jupiter in Scorpio on October 10th of this year. There are projects you are privately developing this year that you will bring to the public between October 2017 and October 2018 with Jupiter in the fellow water sign of Scorpio. Each year we look to the aspects the sun makes to various planets during the Pisces birth month to determine the “flavor” of your year ahead. This year a mix of powerful aspects of the sun in Pisces to inner and outer solar system planets yields a wide variety of birthday forecasts. Please note: If your birthday does not fall within the dates listed for a particular aspect, you are not being forgotten or left out. This means that you are blessed to experience the essence of Pisces in the year to come. (Fish born on March 13th will have an un-aspected Pisces year.)With an un-aspected Pisces year, you are likely to be involved in highly creative projects in 2017 with Neptune continuing through your sign. Neptune is highly involved in the arts of dance, painting, poetry and lyric writing. Your intuition and your ability to envision the future will help bring your plans to realization in late 2017 and 2018. Pisces natives born during the Solar Eclipse period of February 25th and 26th will experience a very significant year. There are exciting new starts that reinvigorate you. It’s time to try a different approach to career that is likely to be more entrepreneurial. Consider becoming a contractor or consultant. Pisces natives born between the 27th of February and the 4th of March experience a year in which their Sun is conjunct Neptune. There is deep spiritual connection this year as well as uncertainty. There seems to be no certain pathway to success. Your spiritual practice will benefit from an increase of commitment. There are increased opportunities to participate in spiritual retreats and events this year. Fish born between the 4th and the 8th of March will be blessed with a year in which their Sun is conjunct Mercury. This is a year in which you have a lot to say and there are many ready to listen. If you are a writer, you may find yourself working on a book or a series of articles. If you have an art, a service or a product to offer, hang your shingle this year and attend marketing events. Go for it! Pisceans born between the 7th and the 11th of March will experience a year in which their Sun makes an productive sextile (or encouragement) to Pluto. This is a year in which authority figures will back you up when you need a reference. You can go far based on the input you receive from powerful teachers and business people. You can accomplish a surprising amount of work under this productive aspect. Fish born on March 11th and 12th on the Full Moon will experience an especially important year. Projects are coming to a culmination this year and you will “make it” or “break it” based on what is culminating for you now. Finally, Pisceans born between March 14th and the 19th will experience a year in which their Sun is squaring (or challenging) Saturn. There are changes you want to make this year in order to get out from under stagnating circumstances. The way to success is to set a timeline and realistic goals along the way. When you start checking off some milestones you will realize you can do this. Don’t expect those that are holding you down to have a change of heart and help. Self-discipline is the key. Saturn is the planet of limitations but it also forges “the diamond of the soul.” You will have to challenge the daunting brick walls that surround you in order to scale them or break them down. At the end of this year you may be happily surprised to see how far you have come. Getting some extra guidance this year, such as a life coach or regular astrology or counseling sessions, will make a positive difference. For all Pisces Sun sign folks, the Solar Eclipse of January 26th in your sign is still making major ripples in your world. This eclipse was so potent because of the Sun, Moon, Neptune exact conjunction. Neptune is the planet that rules the sign of Pisces (endings, dissolution, chaos, uncertainty, meditation, faith) so this was like a cosmic punch in the gut. The Mars/Uranus square brought the shock factor to the mix to create an eclipse that continued to dole out trauma for a good 3 weeks before AND after its date. The Full Moon on Sunday the 12th at 23 degrees Virgo opposes your Sun sign and causes you to feel opposition from people, colleagues and groups who should be your allies. This Full Moon falls into your solar 7th house of marriage and business partners as well as the public. A spouse is likely to be experiencing major difficult issues of their own right now that are rocking your world in a negative way. Pisceans who feel invested in their relationships will want to give their partner wide birth right now and try to talk it out during the Venus retrograde period. Fish that are now ready to swim toward more peaceful waters can take this as yet another sign that it is TIME to leave. There’s no sense trying to swim against the tide any longer. Consider the cost to your long term happiness. The New Moon at 8 degrees Aries on Monday the 27th falls into your solar 2nd house of finances and values. It is important to stand up for your values now. The Venus retrograde in Aries also creates a double signature of 2nd house values and financial considerations. With Venus (the planet of love, attraction, finances and values) retrograde between March 4th and April 14th, this is THE time to carefully consider how to proceed with marriage and business partners. As of April 15th you will have a good idea which direction to move in once Venus returns to direct motion. As of May 3rd you can take decisive action on your new directives (once Mercury has gone direct again after its retrograde.) Your best days at work this month are enhanced by the Moon in the following signs: Aries on the 1st, Taurus on the 2nd and 3rd, Cancer on the 6th and 7th, Leo on the 8th, 9th and 10th, Libra on the 13th and 14th, Scorpio on the 15th, 16 and 17th, Capricorn on the afternoon of the 20th, the 21st and 22nd, Aries on the 27th and 28th and Taurus on the 29th and 30th. Your best days to celebrate your birthday this month are the weekend of the 11th and 12th with the Moon in Virgo, the St. Patrick’s Day Weekend of the 18th and 19th and the dreamy Pisces Moon weekend of the 25th and 26th. Cheers Fish!
