George A. Santino is an author, singer, song writer, and motivational speaker. He started from very humble beginnings in the projects of South Philadelphia and built a life of success through hard work and perseverance. Some of the obstacles Santino faced along the way included a major car accident, corporate and personal bankruptcy, a back injury that required three surgeries, and being turned down for a job at Microsoft four times before getting an offer for an entry level position. His book Get Back Up: From the Streets to Microsoft Suites is an Amazon bestseller.
Your Personal or Professional Goals:
After a long and successful career at Microsoft, my goals are simple and that is to give back. To make a difference in people’s lives. To show them that the American dream is alive and well if you are willing to put in the work and most importantly that no set back can’t be overcome.
What’s your offering to the world:
I offer my experience and example. I started out in life poor and on welfare. I worked hard to change my circumstance and faced many challenges and setbacks along the way. But I never lost sight of my goals and pushed through every obstacle that life threw in my way. Frankly, I’m nothing special. I don’t have a college degree and I didn’t win the lottery. I worked hard and didn’t take no for an answer. Even when I destroyed my back and had to spend some time in a wheelchair I knew that I could push forward. I think that is true for everyone. You just have to start with the right mental attitude. Life can be very tough at times. You just have to be tougher.
Who/What Inspires You:
I have to say any story about a person beating the odds is something I find inspiring and frankly to world is filled with them. Whether it is people starting a company from scratch and building an empire like Bill Gates or Steve Jobs or someone who started from nothing and built a career and life that inspires others like Steve Harvey there are plenty of people we can look to for inspiration.
George A. Santino helps people who want to break down barriers, including self-imposed barriers, to success.
“You have to learn the rules of the game. And then you have to play better than anyone else.” Albert Einstein (http://www.goodreads.com/author/show/9810.Albert_Einstein)
Don’t be afraid to go for your dreams. Don’t take No for an answer. If you hear it find out why and learn from it or even better overcome the objection and get what you want. If it’s a job we’re talking about, once you get that job find out what your boss or company value and do those things better than anyone else. Remember you are in control of your own success and happiness.
